The Only Exception

“So what are you wearing?” Abby asked, we were all looking through the things we bought for something to wear tonight.

“No idea, I mean it’s just a bonfire.” I said shrugging, stopping and looking up through my bag I noticed all of the girls looking at me.

“Just a bonfire? You’re going with you mate, you have to look simply amazing!” Lillian said throwing her hands up, I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“If the whole mate thing is meant to be, then I highly doubt he will care what I look like.” Going back to looking through my things Zoe snatched it out of my hands. “Hey!”

“No, listen to me Nix. Yes he is going to love you no matter what you wear but I mean come on! Look sexy for him!” Rolling my eyes I laid back on the floor.

“I’ll wear a nice bikini but that’s it.” Hearing cheers I mentally groaned wishing this was just over with already.

Sitting back on my bed I couldn’t stop the smile forming on my face. I had finally found her, I had been searching for five years and I finally found her! My wolf rumbled with happiness at the thought of being able to see her soon. A knock come to my door and I sat up running my hand through my hair.

“Come in.” My beta Tristan walked in.

“Hey bro!” Standing up and giving him a ‘man’ hug.

“Long time, why didn’t you let me know you were headed back home?” I asked as we walked out of my room and towards the backyard.

“I figured I’d surprise the pack.” He replied with a shrug.

“Did you find her?” Tristan had also been looking for his mate, he shrugged again.

“Nah, but I have this feeling I will soon.” Giving him a pat on his back I said with a smile.

“Well you’re back just in time for the bonfire tonight.” He looked to me and smirked.

“You found her didn’t you?” A grin spread across my face again and he pulled me into a
hug. “Congrats man, that’s awesome. So when do I get to meet her?”

“No, no, no!” I yelled trying to pull away from the four girls trying to maul me.

“Oh come on! It’s just a little hairspray and make-up.” Zoe said laughing at my struggles.

“It’s not just a little; there is already another hole in o-zone because of you four! I refuse. It’s rape if you do it.” I countered trying to back out of the room.

“What are you ladies doing up here?” Todd, Lillian’s father asked coming to the door frame a kind smile on his face.

“Nothing.” We all replied with a smile, he shook his head with a laugh.

“I came up here to tell you all the fire is starting if you wanted to get there now.” After saying our goodbyes and me not killing the girls we all piled into my car and took off.

“Ooo I love this song!” Samantha said turning up Just Lose It by Eminem, looking to her slowly I shook my head before looking back to the road. “What! You mean to tell me you all don’t like this song?”

Now I could sit here and tell you that we denied it and changed the song but then I’d be lying.

Pulling into the parking spaces provided for beach access I lowered the top of my car so it would be easier for everyone to get out and get all the stuff we had packed. Airplanes by B.O.B started to play and I turned it up as we gathered everything up. Closing my eyes I took a deep breath in trying to see if Matt was here yet, he wasn’t. I couldn’t stop the slight hurt I felt knowing he wasn’t yet, but I pushed it to the back of my mind and plastered a smile on my face and made my way to the large group of people joking around and playing in the water.

“Hey girls.” Jess said waving us over. “Hey love.” He said pulling Lil into his arms giving her a kiss.

“Awwe.” Zoe, Sam, and I said making lovey faces at them. Abby was already sitting on Zacky’s lap having a heated make out session.

“Okay, something I could of lived without seeing.” I mumbled walking towards an open log and placed my bag down. “Hey Zoe, want to go swimming?” I asked turning to face her, she shrugged and pulled off her hoodie and pants. I followed stuffing them into my bag and sliding off my shoes before heading to the water, as the cool water enveloped my body I tried to relax. Ever since I had come back here I tried to not let my past get to me, but it was becoming harder by the day to not think of what I left behind. Why I didn’t want to fall for Matt…

“Something wrong?” Zoe asked swimming up to me, I shook my head and looked away. “Nix, I know we haven’t known each other long but I know when something is wrong.” I was having a battle with myself, it would be amazing to tell someone but on the other hand I didn’t want anyone to know. Looking around I noticed no one was close enough to hear if I told her so I gave in.

“Well,” Taking a deep breath trying to calm my nerves I continued. “You know how when we’re in wolf if we get seriously hurt it doesn’t show in this form?” She nodded and I looked down and played with my hands. “I don’t have-.”

“Zoe, Nix get over here!” Abby yelled, looking that way I saw more people had showed up; including my mate.

“We’ll finish later okay?” She asked and I nodded as we made our way out of the water. Going over to my bag I pulled my hoodie on, leaving off the pants and shoes. Grabbing a hair tie I went to put my hair in a bun but a hand on my arm stopped me.

“Don’t, I like it down.” A shiver went through my body at his voice and I turned around to face him. Dropping my hand I placed the tie on my wrist and bit my bottom lip looking anywhere besides is breath taking eyes. Seeing him move to sit on the log I was about to move my bag to sit also but he pulled me onto his lap. “I hope you don’t mind.” God he really didn’t have an amazing smile.

“It’s fine.” It really was, just being near him made everything okay. Pretty soon everyone was sitting down around us talking and laughing, it was nice, I finally felt welcomed.

“So tell me something about you.” Matt whispered into my ear, turning a little bit to look at him I replied.

“What would you like to know?”

“Everything.”
