Love and Other Lies

my dress.

I walked back to the dressing room with the lady. I was disappointed, and I knew it was apparent.

"I'll be right back. I'm going to go grab a dress I think will be absolutely perfect. I saw you admiring the dress on the mannequin and I have one just like it." She said whisking all of the dresses out of the room. Ten minutes later she swept a beautiful gown in to the room... it looked exactly like the one on the mannequin. Odd. I put it on and gasped. It. was. perfect.

"Wow" The lady whispered. Staring at me, I felt beautiful. The dress was a princess sweep. It was floor length, material bunched up by my knee in one layer, the layer underneath continued to the floor. The bodice was jeweled and corseted. The middle of the corset is laced with a shiny ribbon. It was the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. I knew it was the one off of the mannequin and I knew I couldn't afford it. But now that I had it on..... I had to have this dress. It broke my heart, but I guess I will survive. I could wear jeans and still be happy i'm getting married to Dimitri. We stepped out of the room, I could feel the tension mounting in the sitting room. I stepped out and heard a collective gasp. Tyler sprang up and started clapping.

"Yes. this, this is the dress. You look stunning. How lucky Dimitri is to be standing at the end of that isle." Tyler raved. I gave him my best 'yea, but he won't see me in this dress' look. I was almost in tears.

"This is the perfect dress" Hannah agreed. She had two things in her hands. She stepped up and placed a tiara on my head and a red heart necklace around my neck. Tyler bounded forward with a gaudy silver bracelet, but it all looked perfect. The tears really started to come out.

"We will take it." Mom told the woman.

"But I can't afford this mom." I told her, she laughed. Literally laughed at me.

"You aren't buying your dress. I am." She told me.

"No, it's too much." I argued.

"Nothing is too much, This is the dress, now go take it off so we can pay for it. How convenient it fits you perfectly off of the shelf." She smiled. I took it off and got back into my regular clothes. The lady put it in a dress bag and handed it to Tyler.

"Mom...." I tried again. She put her hand up to shut me up.

"No. If you want to buy something..... buy your accessories, the ones you had on were perfect." She smiled, putting her purse back on her shoulder. I nodded and the lady rang up my perchase.

"Seventy-two fifty." She said, packaging my things.

"Wait... I could have sworn that tiara was more.." I said, reaching for it. She snatched it back, raising her eyebrows.

"Seventy-Two Fifty" She said, more demanding this time.

"Thank you." I smiled.

"Anything for you sweetheart. I hope your big day is amazing" She told me. I couldn't help but smile at her.

"Me too" I replied heading out to the car for the long ride home.
