It's What's Underneath the Skin; the Beauty that Shines Within
Don't Say it Like That!
Since Tanner’s been home, I haven’t spent too much time with Kirstie. Time spent with him didn’t really register though. I was just happy that he was home and I could actually spend time with him!
Kenzie was so excited when she came home and there was a dog though. It was the cutest thing! Tanner wasn’t too sold on the idea until he saw his daughter’s reaction. I knew he couldn’t resist his little one. Took mental notes long ago…
But all this time together… came with a cost. Tanner and I… kind of… got into an argument the other night. Tanner and I never really argue, so I was kind of shocked more than anything. It got to the point where… we didn’t even sleep in the same bed last night… or spoke a word to one another this morning. Poor Kenzie. She didn’t know how to act this morning as she was getting ready for school.
Once she was off, I left. I wasn’t going to stay here with the awkwardness hanging between Tanner and I. I was out… and heading to my sister’s. It was still early. I hoped she was up! I probably should have called, but…
Thankfully, she answered the door when I knocked. She sent me a small smile as I walked past her and plopped down on the couch.
“Are you… ok?” she asked softly.
“Fine,” I assured her.
“No, you’re not,” she giggled.
“I’m fine. How are you this morning?” I changed her focus… or tried to anyway.
“Good… how was yours?” she switched it around again.
“Horrible,” I finally confessed.
“Did… something happen with you and Tanner?” she asked gently.
“We got… into an argument last night,” I grumbled.
“About what?” she questioned.
“James,” I huffed.
“What?” she asked quickly, seeming surprised.
“I don’t know,” I sighed, not wanting to have this conversation.
“No, tell me! My house is a safe zone!” she giggled while sitting next to me. “Did he get mad about the dog?” she went on to be goofy to try and lighten the mood.
“No, he loves the dog. But… he didn’t like the story behind the dog,” I explained.
“What’s the story behind it?”
“You know… James brings his dog around and then I want a dog. James went with me to get the dog. James and I’s dogs have gone on little play dates…”
“Ohhh…” she said.
Ohhh what? Don’t say it like that!” I complained.
“I always thought you and James had something!” she giggled.
“But we don’t! And now Tanner thinks I did stuff with James while he was gone,” I whined.
“Does he really?” she asked with her eyes wide.
“Yeah, that’s what we fought about last night,” I sighed yet again.
“Aw, Ky,” Kirstie sympathized as she reached over to pull me in for a hug.
I didn’t say anything else. It made me sad to think that… Tanner and I weren’t getting along right now. I missed him so much and he goes and accuses me of messing around with James. Is he crazy? I love him. James is really good looking, but… I don’t love him like I love Tanner. Why doesn’t Tanner see that?!
