If I Was Your Boyfriend

one hundred-eighteen.

Justin’s Point of View

I lift Chrissy’s limp body up into my arms and begin to walk down the gravel road. Once Carter struck Chrissy he peeled off of the road so fast you could smell the burning rubber from the tires. I walk and walk until I finally make it to the mechanic’s station Chrissy must’ve been talking about. The guy behind the glass stares at me bewildered as I hold an unconscious girl’s body in my arms. I could see my bloody reflection from the glass door. My arms and legs begin to wobble from the carrying and walking.

‘Sir please.’ I beg, ‘I need to call for an ambulance. This is my girlfriend and I need to get her to the hospital.’ I say through the glass door.

He stares at me for a few long seconds before unlocking the door. He moves aside a few things from the counter so I could carefully lay her down.

‘The phone’s on the back wall.’ He informs me staring at Chrissy.

‘Thanks.’ I run down the hall and pull the phone from the wall. ‘Hello, my name’s Justin Bieber and I need an ambulance out here immediately. I don’t really know where I’m at – we’re at a service station on this gravel road.’ I take the phone from my ear to ask the man where he was located and he informs me, ‘out on Clearwater Road. My girlfriend, Chrissy Thorton was abducted by this man named Larry Carter and he hit her with my car before driving away in it. She’s been out for a while now and still hasn’t opened her eyes. Please send someone as soon as you can.’

‘Remain calm sir, help is on the way.’

‘Thank you.’ I sigh hanging up the phone to return to Chrissy’s side.

I was calling everyone once I made it inside of the ambulance. First I would call her mom, then my own, Danielle, and anyone else she wanted me to call. I stroke her soft cheeks while moving the strands of hair from her face. I couldn’t believe she did this for me. She literally pushed me out of the way so she could take the fall. Before I knew it I was on the ground watching helplessly as the car rammed against Chrissy. She flew over my Range Rover before dropping to the gravel. She just said she was hoping she would be able to return the favor for me one day. One day came faster than we anticipated. My knuckles were covered with dry blood, a mixture of Carter’s and mine. I could practically feel my face swelling up from the fight. I look down at my dirty white socks that were covered with grass and weeds. For some reason Carter decided to steal my shoes, phone, wallet, and the watch and necklace I had on not to mention my car. He actually stole my car. I couldn’t believe this. Sirens roaring in the background cut into my thinking. I stand on the sidelines as two men rush in and get Chrissy inside of the ambulance. They stare at me with shocked expressions because of my resemblance of Rocky Balboa at the end of the movies.

‘Sir you need attention as well.’ One says helping me into the back of the ambulance.

‘Thank you.’ I wave to the mechanic just as the door closes.

‘Just hold on. We’re going to get you guys to the hospital.’ The sirens sounded much louder on the inside of the ambulance.

As we were leaving I could see all of the police cars speeding down the road to the scene. I couldn’t help but stiff out a painful laugh because I was just in the back of an ambulance not too long ago. Somehow I ended back here. I reach across the ambulance grabbing a hold of Chrissy’s hand. I’ve waited to feel her for days and I wasn’t letting go. I dose off peaceful feeling her hand twitch every few seconds or so.

‘Justin Bieber.’ One of the nurses at the hospital shine a light in my face, ‘you are at the hospital. Your mother is on her way. I need you to describe your pain for me right now.’

‘I’m at four I guess.’ I hear myself groan wincing at the light. ‘Where’s Chris-… where is Chrissy? Is she okay?’

‘Chrissy is being seen by doctors right now. She’s going to be fine.’

‘Can I see her?’

‘After a few tests, yes you can.’ She nods as I’m pushed into a room by myself.

Several nurses were surrounding me with icepacks. I’m guessing I looked worse than I actually felt. It wasn’t long before my mom and dad rushed into the room hovering over me. My mom covers her mouth at the sight of me. I grab the white towel from the bed and use it to cover my face.

‘I’m fine mom.’

‘What on Earth happened?’ she demands removing the towel.

‘Well I went to find Chrissy and I did. I knew exactly where she was at when I went to text Danielle the address I guess Carter snuck up behind me. I guess he hit me in the head with something because I was out cold. When I woke up I was with Chrissy. She was across from me chained up and I was tied up with some kind of rope. He took my car keys, my phone, my wallet, my necklace, and my watch and shoes. He left us alone for a little bit so Chrissy and I devised a plan. She went to the bathroom and untwist the pipe like I told her to and she knocked Carter out with it. As we were trying to leave, he and I get in a fight. I thought I had got the best of him and he wasn’t getting back up and but we were walking down the road he tried to hit me with the car and Chrissy pushed me out of the way and took the hit.’

‘Is she okay?’ dad asks looking at the nurse.

‘I’ll go check in on her now.’ One of the nurses says before slipping out of the room.

‘We were so worried when you weren’t answering your phone especially after Danielle called us and said you never got in touch with her.’ Dad chimes in.

‘Yeah things went a little south.’ I sigh.

‘Well the important thing is you’re alright.’ My mom wraps her arms around me to hug me in the gentlest way possible.

‘I just really want to see her.’

‘You will soon.’ Dad gives me a pat on my back.

I wait for about a half hour more before the nurse comes back into the room.

‘She’s now up and her family would love it if you came into the room.’ The nurse informs me and I nearly jump up from the hospital bed.

‘Slow down.’ Dad laughs helping me out of the door.

I quickly follow the nurse to the elevator and up a floor then down the hall. I knock on the door and her dad soon answers it. He stares me with his eyes full of appreciation as he extends his hand out to me. I take it and he pulls me in to slap my back a few times.

‘I could never thank you enough for doing what you did even though it was completely dangerous. I’m glad she has someone like you to be there for her.’

‘I’m glad to have her, sir.’ I step aside allowing my parents to come inside of the room.

‘Justin.’ Chrissy’s mom leaves her side to come to me for a hug, ‘thank you, so much.’

‘Please, I only did what I had to do.’ I reply politely moving forward to Chrissy.

Chrissy had the cutest sleep voice going on right now. Her hair was pulled back out of her face into a ponytail. Her head rested on the fluffy white hospital pillow. Behind my swollen eyes I could see the weak smile that spread across her face.

‘I got to return the favor.’ Her voice sounds strained but she laughs anyway.

I immediately wrap my arms around her in the softest way possible kissing her forehead.

‘Don’t do anything like that again.’

‘I could say the same to you.’ She teases running her fingers across my face, ‘are you okay?’

‘Yeah, the doctor said give it a few days and I should be looking back to my regular self. How about you? Are you okay?’

‘Yeah, I’m just really sore.’

‘I’m just amazed you didn’t break anything.’ Chrissy’s mom chimes in.

‘Me too. I couldn’t possibly live with another cast or boot.’ Chrissy laughs through a yawn.

I pull a chair from the wall and put it right beside her bed. Chrissy’s hand is intertwined with my bandaged hand as I rest my head on her bed.

‘We’re going to let you guys rest.’ I watch as our parents file out of the room for a coffee break.

‘Lay with me.’ Chrissy moves aside in the small hospital bed attempting to make room for me to fit. ‘I’m glad you’re okay.’

‘I’m glad you’re okay.’ I repeat kissing her forehead again, ‘got so scared when you weren’t waking up. I didn’t know what to expect.’

‘I’m glad this is behind us.’

‘So am I.’

Chrissy lays her head on my chest with her hand on my stomach. She sighs heavily and looks to the wall.

‘What’s the matter?’

‘It’s silly.’ She shrugs.

‘Tell me.’ I urge giving her a small poke in her side.

‘Carter broke both of our phones and all I can think of is how all of those pictures are gone.’

I couldn’t help it. I broke out in a full out laughter.

Chrissy’s Point of View

I watch as Justin tilts his head back laughing uncontrollably.

‘What?’ I ask confused.

‘It’s just that after all you’ve been through these last few days and what just happened to you, you’re concerned about all of the pictures we took together.’

‘I liked those pictures.’ I defend with a smile.

‘I know, I did too. We’ll have plenty of time to make up for them.’

‘That’s true.’

‘I love you.’

‘I love you.’ I repeat settling back against Justin’s chest.

I slowly allow my eyes to close snuggling against Justin’s protective arm. I wake from the hospital bed to see Justin was gone.

“Justin?”

No answer. I get up from the hospital bed and go out to the hallway. There wasn’t a nurse in sight.

“Mom? Dad?”

The lights above me begin to flicker and crackle in the most annoying way. I finally reach it to the desk and lean forward to look behind it. The familiar crimson color was splattered on the wall. A nurse lied on the floor, lifeless. I slowly back away from the counter and bump into someone’s frame. I turn causing myself to fall right in the arms of Carter. Before I could respond he grabs me by my arm and pulls me into the storage room. I squirm and fight in his grasp with no such luck. His large hands muffles my screams as Justin and my parents wander down the hall.

“I’m in here!!” I scream trying to kick the door but no one turns around. “Help! Can’t you see me?!”

They exchange words that I couldn’t understand before completely disappearing from the hallway.

“HELP ME.”

“It’s just you and me.” Carter’s laughs with a sinister grin.

“HELP!”

My body begins to shake rapidly back and forth.

‘Chrissy!’ Justin calls out as he snaps his fingers in front of my face, ‘Chrissy wake up!’

‘Justin?’

‘I’m right here, you’re safe. It’s okay.’ He wraps his arms around my body holding me close to him, ‘I’m here. Nothing’s going to hurt you.’
