If I Was Your Boyfriend

seventy-six.

‘Well, it was great meeting you.’ I say before turning away to go find Justin in his dressing room. I ignore the “you too” she called out. I lightly knock on the door before twisting the knob. Justin was sitting in the chair pulling his shirt over his head. I sit on the free chair and run my fingers over Rocky’s coat.

‘So you liking the video?’ Justin wonders curiously placing his deep brown eyes on me.

‘It’s great. I think it may be one of your best.’ I reply.

Justin changes his clothes and hands today’s wardrobe to the set stylist on the way out. He walks over to my car with me glancing over at the shiny Fisker Karma evenly parked in its place. The sun reflected off the entire car I open the door and climb into the set while Justin lifts Rocky into the back seat.

‘I’ll see you at home.’ Justin leans on the inside of the door. ‘Do you need anything?’

‘No, I’m good.’ I shake my head repositioning myself in the seat.

‘Alright, I’ll get gas and meet you there.’

‘See you soon.’

Justin and I share a quick kiss before I start the car up and drive out of the parking lot. As I’m waiting at the red light Justin pulls up behind me. I could see him smiling from the rear view mirror. I wave before driving ahead where Justin turns off at the gas station. I wasn’t home long before Justin came in flopping down on the sofa.

‘Do you really think it’s one of my best?’ Justin wonders curiously.

‘Yes, I do.’ I confirm with a nod of my head.

‘Thank you.’ He smiles warmly moving closer to me on the sofa, ‘what are you watching?’

‘It’s called Bride Wars.’ I answer not taking my eyes off of the TV.

Kate Hudson was now in the salon where she was about to find out about her blue hair.

‘Wow.’ Justin blinks at the screen, ‘who did that?’

‘Anne Hathaway aka Emma. They’re best friends but since they’re both having their wedding on the same day they both start to mess with the other and sabotage their weddings, hence the title, Bride Wars.’

‘Why didn’t one of them just get married somewhere else?’

‘Well both of them grew up dreaming of getting married at the Plaza.’ I explain.

‘How come they picked the same date anyway?’

‘The wedding planner’s assistant mixed up the names and the third bride wouldn’t trade with them. You just have to see it from the beginning.’

‘Would you and Danielle ever act like that?’ he smirks playfully looking over at me.

‘No way!’ I shake my head, ‘not me and Danielle.’

‘Okay get engaged at the same time and see what happens.’

The movie continues with Justin asking more questions as it goes on. It was now at the end where the two weddings were set to take place.

‘Do you like Kate Hudson’s dress?’ I ask briefly taking my eyes off the TV again.

‘The poofy one?’ Justin wonders.

‘Yes the poofy one..’

‘I like that one.’

‘That’s what my wedding dress will be like. What would you think?’

‘I think you would look perfect in that dress, Chris.’ He smiles leaning over to kiss my cheek. ‘Would you have it strapless like that?’

‘Yes, nearly like Kim Kardashian’s wedding dress because it’s been said that that’s where she got the idea for her dress.’

‘Oh yeah. You could pull off on of those shiny headpiece things she wore.’

‘But with my own twist.’

‘Of course.’ Justin agrees, ‘don’t tell any of my friends that we talked about wedding dresses.’ I burst out in a fit of laughter resting my head on his lap.

‘I promise.’ I wrap my pinkie finger around Justin’s before he kisses our intertwined fingers.

‘But seriously,’ Justin leans down pressing his forehead to mine, ‘you are going to make the perfect bride. I’ll consider myself the luckiest guy on the earth if I’m the one standing down at the end waiting for you.’

‘Well you better be at the end waiting.’ I brush my nose against his.

Justin was out for the major part of the day with day two of filming All That Matters. I decided to lay around the apartment today instead of watching single Jess kiss and touch my boyfriend. The day seemed to fly right past me considering I watched episode after episode of Boy Meets World on ABC Family. It was already six and Justin should’ve been here at five. I go upstairs to the bedroom to grab my phone from the dresser. I had a missed call from Justin. I unlock my phone and press my ear to the receiver after pressing play for the new voicemail.

Hey baby, it’s me. I don’t know where you’re at. Knowing you you’re probably sleep. Anyway, I’m just calling to let you know I’ll be a little late tonight. Jess and I have to redo a few of the scenes. I’ll be home soon though, I love you. Bye.

I close my eyes as the phone is tossed onto the bed. They’re just redoing some of the scenes, relax. What do you have to be insecure about? Justin and you are in a great spot. Don’t doubt what you have. She’s just the love interest. My mind travels back months and months ago to a dance studio where we had just finished for the day. I overheard Justin trying to convince Selena that there was nothing between us. She’s just the love interest he said. Karma sucks, doesn’t it? This is exactly what you did to Selena and now you’re getting it back. It doesn’t feel good, does it? I stand from the sofa and snatch the keys from the coffee table.

‘I’ll be back Rock.’ I say making sure he has both food and water in his dish before I head out the front door and climbing into my car. I end up inside of Barnes and Noble walking through the empty aisles.

‘May I help you?’ a boy in the green vest asks.

‘I don’t know. I’m just looking for a book.’ I shrug looking up from the numerous titles.

‘Well, I think we can find those here.’ He chuckles, ‘anything in particular?’

‘Something worth reading. I’ve been really busy lately so I’m out of sync I guess. What are people reading now?’

‘Follow me.’ He turns on the heel of his black Converse and headed down to the front of the store. I yank at the strap of my purse and follow behind him. ‘There’s this one.’ He holds up a bright blue book, ‘it’s called The Fault In Our Stars. Girls have been flocking the store as soon as we restock them. Personally, I think its hype from the movie coming out next year but it’s pretty well-written.’

‘Thanks.’ I grab the book from his hand and brush my fingers over the smooth cover. ‘I’ll go with this one for today.’

‘Great, I’ll check you out over here.’ He points to the register. Noticing his wording he scoffs to himself, ‘I didn’t mean it like that.’

‘I know.’ I reply and swipe my card once he rings up the book, ‘thanks again.’ I say then head out to my car before being noticed. When I make it back to the apartment I spot Justin’s Range Rover in the once empty spot.

‘Hey baby.’ He calls from the sofa. ‘Where’d you run off to?’

‘Barnes and Noble. I decided to read during my free time.’ I reply sitting down beside him. ‘I picked up this.’

‘The Fault in Our Stars, I think I’ve heard of this.’

‘The worker at the store said people keep buying it off the shelves. How was filming?’

‘Filming was good. A long day but it was good.’

‘Why'd you have to redo some of the scenes?’

‘It didn't seem real. I mean, it didn't seem believable at all.’ Justin informs me.

It isn't real.

Calm down, it's all acting.

‘Oh.’ I finally manage to say. ‘Can't wait to see it.’

‘I'm excited for you to see how it's coming together.’

‘I'll be upstairs, reading.’

‘Okay. I'll be up in a minute.’ Justin says as I'm halfway up the metal staircase. I go into the spare room and lay across the bed with the book in front of me.

So far I learned the story was about a teenager named Hazel, who has cancer. Her mom talks her into going to some kind of support group. Now she's sitting in the group where she keeps making eye contact with some mystery boy who is also sitting in on the group.

‘Chrissy?’ Justin interrupts me as I was already falling asleep. I glance around the room, the book was still open on the page i left it on. Rocky resting beside me, back to the wall. ‘There you are.’

‘Mhm.’ I mumble, feeling the sleep in my throat.

‘Are you hungry?’

‘Not at this moment.’ I mutter not lifting my head.

‘Alright, I'll just be downstairs. Probably eat leftovers.’ before he leaves the room he plants a small kiss on my temple. I hear the bedroom door close before his feet meet the steps leading downstairs.
