From Teammates to Best Friends to Boyfriends?

Dillon

I changed into my shorts and t-shirt and sat down on the bench in the locker room.

“Do you think Coach will let us leave early since its church night?” Garret asked me. I looked over to where he was changing.

“Hopefully.” I averted my eyes back to ground. I grabbed my glove and stood up. Garret picked his up too.

“Ready?” I asked.

“Yep!” He pepped up.

We headed out to the baseball field where the rest of the team was.

“Alright, let’s warm up! First, we’ll stretch. Then, we’ll practice catching and later we will do some plays.” Coach yelled. I dropped my glove and started stretching. Garret was doing the same beside me. I sighed.

“Yeah, I don’t think we’re getting to leave early. Look at how pissed off he looks.” I quietly said to Garret and pointed to Coach. He was sitting in the dugout, frowning.

“Hopefully mom won’t be mad with me when I don’t show up at church.” Garret shared.

“Well season is right around the corner. She’ll understand.”

After practice, I dropped Garret off at his house. It was already too late to make it to church; since the service will be over in less than an hour. I parked my car in the garage and walked inside the house. The family wasn’t home so I headed to my room and got ready to take a shower. I do my best thinking in the shower. I was debating on whether or not to write my essay for English that was due tomorrow. I decided to even though I don’t really like the topic we have to write about. But I have nothing else to do so I might as well. Plus it’s writing. I love writing.

After showering, I pulled on some boxers and pajama bottoms and went out to my truck to grab my backpack. But it wasn’t in there. Instead of my backpack, Garret’s was in there. Damn it, that’s the second time he’s done that.

I called him up. “Dude, did you grab my back pack?”

“Huh? . . . Hold on.” I heard him shuffling around.

“Shit. Yeah, I did.”

I sighed. “Well, now you have to write my essay.” I demanded.

Garret whined on the other end. “No.”

I sighed. “I’ll be over in a few to get it.”

“Kay. . .Hey can you get me some food, please?” Garret pleaded, dragging out the ‘please’.

“Hmm. . . Maybe.” I hung up.

I went back in and threw on a hoody and my wallet and keys.

I was still hungry so I headed to McDonalds. I texted Garret and asked what he wanted. The kid replied back with like five items listed. I shook my head as I read it. That kid likes to eat too much.

Garret opened his door, grinning.

“Food!” He shouted. He grabbed the bag out of my hands and I laughed.

“Where’s my bag?” I asked.

“Huh?” His eyebrows scrunched up.

“You know the whole reason why I’m here, doofus.”

“Oh, in my room.”

We headed to his room and sat down on the floor at the foot of his bed. We ate and I got started on my essay.

“Do you just want to stay the night?” Garret asked me.

“Sure.”

“Kay.” He left to go get more covers for me.

We ended up watching the show Supernatural after I finished my essay. Then I fell asleep around 10 p.m. with Garret beside me on the pile of covers.
