Soul Eater
Chapter 1
I’m going to be late. I’m going to be late! I ran down my driveway, turned left at my mailbox and dashed to my bus stop. When I got there, the bus had pulled up. I hated the bus. It either comes too early or too late. Never “on time”.
I climbed on and sat next to my best friend.
“Ugh! Vinny! You’re always late! I have to make people sit somewhere else. But anyway…” I tuned out Molly’s talking. Sure she’s my best friend, but she can be highly annoying. It’s always blah blah blah with her, but she does get the best gossip. “Vinny. Vinny! Are you listening?”
“Huh?” I zoned back in.
“I said, there’s a strange new kid in school. I heard he’s cute, but I guess we’ll have to check him out ourselves.” She winks while nudging me. I rolled my eyes. Her and boy obsessions.
Our bus rolls slowly up to the front of the old school building. We get off and walk to the glass, double doors. I noticed that a buzz was going around. Probably about the new kid, I thought. But everyone started giving me weird looks.
Molly ran off to go get more of the ‘latest gossip’ from her peers. I just kept walking. Just ignoring the people staring and talking.
But as I got up to my locker, there was this tall figure leaning against it. He had those basketball shorts on with a black t-shirt. His hair was long enough to cover his eyes, but he had it swooped to the side. He was looking down. Probably staring at his big Nike shoes.
I took one more step when he looked up. He had a light shade of blue color in his eyes. He had light freckles that ran from cheek to cheek.
It feels like I know him, but I’ve never seen the kid in my life. His lips curve upwards just a little and he steps away from my locker. I look around. Everyone wasn’t staring anymore. Everyone was just going about with their own business.
I walk to my locker. But instead of opening it like I do any other day, I face him. His lips curve a little more. He wasn’t smiling because it wasn’t a happy smile. It was more of a smirk.
“I’ve been waiting for you.” He takes a few steps towards me. “You, Vinnifer Lee Lockhert, are one.” One. What did he mean by one?
I took a few steps back. He followed with a smooth, elegant walk. I turned and dashed for the doors. Something in my head kept yelling at me to run. Run! Get away from him! He means trouble! Get out of here as fast as you can!
I ran past Molly. She didn’t noticed. No one noticed me running. Not a single head turned. In fact, no one seem to be moving at all! Time freeze? Then how come I’m the only one moving?
It’s too late. He got to you. Ich muss jetzt gehen. Until then, tschau. The voice faded away as it said it’s final good-bye. What got me was how I understood the language. I have never taken anything other than Spanish and still failed to comprehend it.
I bumped into Tommy from my math class. I put my hand on his shoulder to turn him around to apologize. As soon as I turned him, a scream escaped someone’s mouth. I looked around to see who’s it was, then I realized, we were the only ones there.
His face was albino pale. Eyes opened in terror. I let go and his body dropped. Lifeless.
