Sequel: Science & Faith

Fairytales & Lullabies

And this is how the story ends.

"Lena! Can you get the rest of the kids down here?" I heard a faint “yeah” come from the floor above us. Soon I was met with the faces of my three youngest children and my oldest daughter. "Go sit down you guys, Braydon and Nick should be home soon."

Kris walked in the door as soon as they were in their seats. Braydon and Nick followed in behind him. "Hey." Kris came up and kissed me.

"Nick! Come here!" I abandoned the stove to wrap my third born child in a hug. I kissed his cheek. "I'm so proud of you! Did you get the puck?"

He held the puck up in his hands, "Of course. Do I get to put it on the mantle?" I nodded and he ran over to place it on the elaborate fireplace. He put it in front of his brother’s puck from his first goal, pictures from the three Stanley cups in Kris' career and his sister’s dance trophy.

“Mommy? When do I get to put something up there?” Our youngest son asked. He stood next to Nick and looked at all of the memories.

Kris knelt down next to him. “As soon as you score your first goal, we’ll put something up there for you.” He seemed satisfied with the answer and ran off with a smile.

We had settled into domestic life easily. Kris retired a few years before, but still spent his days with the Penguins behind the scenes, helping out where he could. I stayed home. All of the kids were in school, so it gave me a chance to clean up after the six of them.

"All right, everyone at the table!" I pulled two pizzas out of the oven and put two more in. I set them down and they were immediately gone. I went back a grabbed the fresh veggie tray and put them on the table; the veggies were slowly taken, but never fully disappeared.

Braydon had grown into a fine young man. At eighteen years old, he was planning to go to the University of Minnesota in the fall to play hockey. He had inherited the love of the game from his father and we were both proud to see him continue playing.

Lena was our second oldest. She was almost seventeen and was constantly at dance practice or dancing around the house. She loved to dance, but also made time to go to her brother's hockey games. She was a Letang after all.

Nick was 15 and was fully of energy. He was excited to be the only freshman on the varsity hockey team and getting be on the same team as his brother. He was smaller than his older brother, but always started the fights.

Natasha was 13 and spent her time reading. She loved going to school and learning. No matter how many hockey games she came to, she always had a book with her.

Chase and Kaden were 10 and 7 respectively. The two were always bouncing off the walls with energy. They both looked up to their older brothers and thought they were "the greatest hockey players out there, besides Dad."

We had finally made it. Through diaper changes, fights, and endless stories about fairytales, we had managed to settle down and live a happy life.

"So how was school today?" I asked. Everyone began chatting and talking about some horrible teacher or crazy classmate.

"We have an assignment for psych class that I'll need your help on." Braydon told me when the talking settled down.

Kris spoke up, "What's it about?"

"We’re supposed to write a paper about how our parents met.” My eyes immediately looked at Kris and I smiled.

"How did you guys meet?" Natasha asked taking a bite of pizza.

"Yeah," Lena butted in, "I've never heard the story."

Kris smiled, "Go ahead. It’s an interesting one."

I set down my food and took a sip of my water. "Well, it was a hot summer day in Minnesota. I was at Auntie Anne’s apartment when I got a phone call..."
