Rumored Nights

Chapter One

“This is ridiculous!” I screamed, dropping my head dramatically on my desk and letting my pencil and paper slide onto the floor. I could feel my classmate’s eyes on me as I peeked up. I blushed immediately and sat up straight. “Sorry…” I apologized for interrupting. Everyone turned away from me and went back to focusing on what our teacher was talking about.

“Wow, Alex. You sure do know how to distract everyone,” I looked over to my best friend, Louis, and rolled my eyes. “I’m kidding. You okay, buddy?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m just…I’m so sick of all of this work. You know?”

“I get you completely,” He looked back over at me. “We should do something about it.”

“Like what?” I raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue.

“We could take a break,”

“Oh, okay Lou.” I snorted, turning away from him.

“I’m serious, Alex,” He turned around in his seat completely so he was now facing me. “You want to take a break, right?”

“Yeah I WANT to, but I can’t. And neither can you! We have school.” I reminded him, trying my best to ignore Louis and pay attention to the professor.

“We could run away.” The biggest, most mischievous smirked crossed Louis’ face and I was suddenly horrified.

Run away? Was he serious? We were in school; running away was NOT an option.

But even though I thought the idea was completely insane…I couldn’t help but think how wonderful it would be to just leave. To walk away from all the stress and worry of school and run away for a few days. It would be great.

I wished we could, but I never thought we actually would. Ever.

I tried to focus back on class, but it was no use. My thoughts were cluttered with hopes that Louis would forget this completely idiotic idea. I was hoping for this because, knowing Louis, he would put all of his time and energy in this and take it way too far to where all of us would end up getting in trouble, just like every time we tried to accomplish one of Louis’ schemes.

And honestly…it just wasn’t worth it. The thought of running away during school seemed risky. So I sat there, zoned out, hoping that Louis would completely forget about this crazy idea. But I should have known that that would be impossible.

“Come on, Alex! Won’t you just listen to me?” Louis looked at me, trying to convince me to give in and let him have his fun, like I was actually going to consider his insane idea. “I’m just saying it would be really fun!”

“Are you still talking about it?” I rolled my eyes.

“Yes, I am!” He complained, going through my fridge, looking for something decent to eat.

“You are seriously crazy! We CAN’T run away!” I tried getting him to realize how crazy he was sounding.

“Why can’t we?!” He frowned, thinking it was no big deal to just get up and leave. He bit into a sandwich he had just made and the sauce spilled out onto his shirt.

“Slob,” I smirked and he looked up at me and smiled. God his smile is so perfect.

“I know. Now stop changing the subject! Why can’t we leave? It would be so much! Like a…like a road trip!” Louis’s horrifying smirk made my stomach sink.

“Do you even hear yourself? Run away? Road trip? What are you thinking?” I sighed.

“I’m thinking we’re young, we’re bored, and we would be PERFECT candidates for a well-deserved road trip.” He tried to explain his side on why we should go on this ‘road trip’. I still wasn’t buying it. He was crazy.

“Gosh! You know what? I’m done talking about this with you.” I tossed my hands in the air, getting completely annoyed with Louis at this point.

“Whatever,” He said with a mouthful of sandwich. “This doesn’t change anything, I still want to go.” He crossed his arms and I could tell he wasn’t going to give up anytime soon.

Louis and I stared at each other for the longest time, his lip sticking out into a pout. “Okay, fine! WHY do you want to go on this trip so bad?” I sighed, leaning over the counter and staring at him.

“Why? Why not!? It would be so awesome! It would be the most fun we’ve ever had!” Louis tried to use his perfect smile to convince me into agreeing with his idea. But I wasn’t giving in just yet.

“Okay, but do you even have a reason for going?”

“What do you mean a reason? You just go! No questions asked!” Louis finished what he was eating and put the dishes in the sink.

“Okay, well where are you even going to go?” He looked at me, puzzled. He hadn’t thought about this part yet. He was just going to drive around in circles and call it a road trip. Yeah, like that was going to go well.

“Um…” He stared at the soda can he was holding, like it had all the answers. He was stuck on this one. “I’m not really sure.” He admitted, scratching his head.

“Hah! Exactly!” I crossed my arms, thinking I had won this argument.

“So? That doesn’t change anything, Alex! I still want to go!” Louis was on the verge of pouting again, and even though I thought this idea was stupid, I couldn’t help but notice how cute his pout really was.

“You’re not going to give up on this…are you?”

“Nope!” He smiled and I sighed.

“Fine, how about this?” I leaned back over the counter, looking into Louis’s beautiful blue eyes, searching for something to say to get me out of this mess. He stared back at me with excitement. “If you can find me ONE good reason for us to go on this trip...then I’ll go.” I promised, thinking that he would NEVER find a reason for us to go on this silly little road trip.

“Do you promise?” He stared at me with a serious expression, trying to figure out my answer.

“I promise!” I laughed, giving Louis an annoyed look. I was completely done with this idea.

“Okay, fine.” He reached his hand out for us to shake on this deal.

“Fine,”

“Oh Alex, I’m going to find you a reason. And it’s going to be a GREAT one.” Louis promised me. I rolled my eyes, thinking he would never truly find a good enough reason. Oh boy was I wrong…

“Sure you will,” I shook my head and walked away to go blow dry my hair. Louis just smirked, laughing, thinking I was the crazy one as I walked away.
