All The Small Things

I

"Dammit Jace! You and your friends get OUT!" I shouted, "Why the fuck are you in my room anyway?"

"Kyle wanted to see what a thong looks like, Cameron!" Jace giggled as his friend turned bright red, "I wanted to show him before he got picked up today.

"Get OUT!" I screamed before I chased them out of the room. When I finally got them to leave, I groaned and layed down on my bed, finally getting the peace I needed. But like all good things, this come to an end. Just as soon as I got comfortable enough to fall asleep and forget about all of my troubles, the doorbell rang. Knowing that there was no way Jace would answer it, and my parents weren't home, I scrambled out of bed and made sure I looked decent enough before I went to greet whoever was at the door.

"Er, hi." The tall boy with black hair and random blond streaks in it smiled.

"Can I help you?" I asked. It came out a little more on the rude side, but I didn't really care.

"I'm here to pick up Kyle?" He said.

"Is that supposed to be a question?" I refrained from rolling my eyes.

"No, I'm really here to pick up Kyle." He nodded his head vigorously as his hair flopped around everywhere.

"Okay, I'll go get the little prick." I chuckled to myself mostly as I turned around to go find him. A moment later I turned back around to hear the front door close and to see the lanky guy was following me with a slight smirk on his face.

"Why is my little brother a prick?" He asked me curiously, "I mean, I already knew that, but what did he do?"

"He went into my- never mind." I shook her head, not wanting to relive that embarrassing moment "It's not important, he's just a prick."

"Fair enough." He thankfully let the subject go, "Where is he anyway?"

"No idea, they were just here a second ago..." I turned the corner and heard giggling up the stairs, "Fuck, not again." I rolled my eyes, "Hey, can you go up these stairs and I'll go up the other ones to try and get them?"

He shrugged, "Why not?"

"Thanks." I breathed out a sigh of relief as I hurried up the other set of stairs and went straight towards my bedroom. Unfortunately, this was the same moment that the boy was headed that way too, and we crashed into each other and toppled over into a pile on the ground.

"Jack! What are you doing here so early?" Kyle asked as he held one of my lacy blue thongs in his hands.

Jack smiled at me as he helped me get up from the ground, "Mom said she needed you home early, Bro. It's a school night. And give those back, you asshole." Jack snatched the underwear out of his brother's hand and gave it to me as both of our faces turned red with embarrassment, "Sorry about him."

"Fuck you, Jack!" Kyle yelled as he stomped down the stairs and out to his brother's car.

"You're adopted!" Jack shouted back to him. He laughed a little to himself before turning to look at me again, "He hates that."

"Maybe I'll use that one on Jace once in a while." I laughed.

Jack shrugged, "It does get Kyle pretty mad, and they are a lot alike."

I smirked, "That's unfortunately true."

Jack laughed and nodded his head in agreement, "Well, I guess I will see you around."

"See ya." I said, feeling stupid that that was the best response I could come up with. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself that I could hear the two brothers bicker even once the door was closed again. When it was finally silent again, I went into my room to get away from my over-hyper little brother.

The next day, to my surprise, I was nearly tackled to the ground by my best friend, Erica as I walked into the school building.

"Why didn't you tell me?” She screeched.

“Tell you what?” I asked. I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about.

“Jack Barakat was at your house yesterday?!" She screeched.

"Who?" I asked as I opened my locker and pulled out my French II book.

Erica rolled her eyes, "Only the most popular senior in school."

"Oh, that's who that was. He was just picking up his little brother. Wait, how did you know about that?" I asked as I closed my locker.

"Valerie Winston is friends with Chloe Nathan who lives next to Hannah Welsh who is friends with Mia Tomlinson who lives across the street from you. She is telling everyone." Erica informed me as if I actually cared.

"Is it bad that I have no idea who any of those people are?" I couldn't help but chuckle at how low I was on the popularity totem pole.

"Only a little." Erica waved it off, "Anyway, according to Macy Cornwall, she overheard Jack telling Alex that he thought you were cute."

"Who is Alex?" I asked, "And how do you know who all these people are?"

Erica scoffed, "Unlike you, I'm actually pretty well known at school. I'm B list on popularity around here."

"Because that is something to be proud of." I giggled, "Isn't it insulting to be anything below A list?"

"Not when there is a D list." Erica smirked at me, "If you weren't my best friend since kindergarten, I don't think I would associate with you. But with all this buzz about you going around, I think you could be making your way up to the C list."

I laughed, "I don't really care about any of this high school shit, Erica. You lost me in this conversation a long time ago."

"Well, at least you're informed now." Erica sighed, "I've got to go on my way now, or I will miss the morning bathroom gossip. I'll call you tonight, okay?"

"That's fine." I agreed as she walked away. It wasn't unusual that Erica would call me. She did just about every night to tell me everything that was going on in the school. I usually pretended to listen while I did other things, usually adding a "oh wow" or "yeah, totally" here and there. Sometimes I really questioned how we were best friends. She was a ditzy blond girl, obsessed with popularity while I was a reserved brunette who was interested in art, mostly painting and drawing.

As I made my way down the hall, I heard footsteps running fast in my direction. I turned around just in time to see someone running backwards trying to catch something flying in the air. Before I could move, or even let out a scream we had both fallen to the ground.

"Fuck, I'm sorry. Oh hey, I know you!" Jack grinned, "We keep running into each other like this."

"As I recall, you keep running into me." I huffed as he helped me up once again.

"I didn't know you went here." Jack kept smiling at me, disregarding my comment as if I had never said it.

"Yeah, I'm a sophomore." I informed him.

"Cool, I was a sophomore once." He said excitedly.

"Really?" I asked sarcastically, "I just thought that you randomly skipped a grade."

Jack laughed, "Yeah that was a pretty stupid thing to say wasn't it?"

I shrugged, "It's okay. I've said stupider things, believe me."

"So do you have a name?" He asked, "I'll need to know it for the next time we run into each other."

"Cameron." I smiled, "And I'll be sure to watch out for when you're coming next time, so it doesn't catch me off guard."

"That'd be a good idea." He laughed, "I'm Jack, by the way... In case you didn't already know that."

"Well, Jack," I put emphasis on using his name which made him smirk a little, "I've got to get to first period, so I guess this is goodbye."

"For now." He flashed another cheeky smile my way before picking up the piece of paper from the ground that he had been trying to catch earlier, "I'll be seeing you, Cameron."
