"Let go that's mine!"

"No it's mine!"

"Does it have your name on it?"

"Does it have youws?" The little boy raised and eyebrow. The girl with hair brown hair in a ponytail secured by a red ribbon, stomped her foot frustrated. She refused to let go of the little bright blue train engine. It was nap time and Ms. June stepped out to use the restroom. They've been arguing since. The two kids were in the corner by the closet so despite their bickering, the rest of the class was fast asleep.

"I found it first!" She griped the toy tighter.

"No you didn't! You were pwaying with youw stupid toy!" He pointed to the discarded Superman action figure by her legs. She used this opportunity to tug harder on the train.

"It is not a stupid toy! It is a Superman Returns 30" action figure from my daddy!" She pouted. "Now give me the train!"

"No it's mine!"

"No it's mine!"

"Mine!"

"Mine!"

"Mine!"

"Mine- Ah" She squealed when the boy suddenly let go causing her to fall back and hit the chubby kid near by.

"Some people are trying to sleep here!" The kid whispered in a harsh tone. They both put their heads down and muttered their apologies. A few more kids near by slowly sat up and looked at them.

They heard the click of the doorknob and scrambled into their blankets. The teacher started to walk around the classroom with her shoes clicking against the cold wooden floor. The clicks got louder and louder and Kennedy and Katie shut their eyes to tight to be even considered asleep. Kennedy cracked open an eye and saw their teacher pick up the train and the action figure and put it on top of the shelf, far too high for them to reach. He heard Katie let out a small whimper and closed his eyes again.

"But mommy! She took it!" Katie cried.

"I'll get it back from Ms. June tomorrow." She fussed as Katie kept screaming and kicking in her seat. "Please don't be difficult sweetie I have to get to Phoenix in and hour. I still have to drop you off at John's" Penelope Sawyer finally clicked the seatbelt on then rushed to the front seat and drove.

"But I don't want to go to John's stupid house!" She crossed her arms over her chest. She glared at her mom through the rear view mirror.

"You will not be using the language you hear me Katherine!" Penelope scolded. Katie remained quiet for the rest of the trip. They finally pulled up at a big white house that Katie recognized as the house by the curb that they would pass by before reaching her own house, a block away. They were greeted at the porch by a blonde who didn't look that much older than her mom. She had an apron on her waist and had her hair in a messy bun. She her mom a big hug.

"Thank you so much again Jen!" Mrs. Sawyer hugged her as if she was her saving grace.

"It's really no problem at all Pen. Besides John is also having some of friends over so it really was no hassle at all." She pulled away from her. She took a look at the little girl clinging on to her mother's blouse for dear life, making her hide behind her even more. "And who is this little fella?"

"This is Katie." Her mother gently tried to push her forward. "Katie say hi to Mrs. O'Callaghan."

"Hi Mrs. O'Callaghan." She said almost inaudibly.

"She is the a social butterfly isn't she." Her mother joked. Mrs. O'Callaghan laughed along with her.

"Hi sweetie, you can call me Auntie Jenny." She gave Katie a dimpled smile which made her step out of the comfort of her mom's back and a little closer to the door. "Why don't you both come in and have a glass of lemonade?"

"I can't I have to be in Phoenix in less than an hour." Mrs. Sawyer faced her daughter and kneeled so that they were eye to eye. "Ok honey, be good and try not to cause any trouble. I promise I'll pick up your doll tomorrow before we go to the airport to pick up your father." She kissed her on the head and ran to the car while shouting another round of thanks to Mrs. O'Callaghan.

"Why don't you come in sweetie? I'll bring you to the playroom so that you could me the other kids." Katie just nodded and followed Mrs. O'Callaghan to their playroom converted basement. "John! You have a guest!" Mrs O'Callaghan called for her son. A pretty big, lanky boy with brown sandy hair ran to them.

"Ken what took you- oh it's just you." He looked disappointed.

"John Cornelius you apologize to Katie for being so rude right now!" This made Katie giggle. He mumbled his apologies while giving her a small glare. "Introduce her to your friend while I finish up the brownies."

"Brownies!" His face instantly lit up. "Come on!"

He pulled Katie's arm, surely leaving a small bruise. He led her to the chubby boy that made her feel bad earlier who was playing legos with a kid who was slapping the blocks together. "That's Jared and the weird one's Pat." He pulled her to another kid in the corner in a cape who was munching on a cookie. "This is Garrett." The boy didn't even look up. John pointed his thumb at the two other kids on the other side of the room who had his eyes glued on the TV. "That bigger kid is Halvo and the baby over there is my little brother Ross."

"Am not a baby!" The smaller kid shouted without taking his eyes off the TV.

"Are to!" John shouted back. He left her beside Garrett so she took a seat beside him.

"Cool cape." She smiled at him. He didn't say anything or look up. He got another cookie from his lunchbox and threw it at her, hitting her arm. "Ouch."

"Sorry. It was supposed to go in your mouth." He mumbled softly. She just stared at him confused. Why would he aim for her mouth? She started nibbling on the cookie. Mrs O'Callaghan came back in with a little boy who had a white thing on his arm. Garrett yelled and started running to the boy, causing her to jump in surprise and drop her cookie. 5 second rule she thought. She continued to munch on the cookie as the all the boys, except for John, huddled over the newly arrived guest.

From then on the room was filled with 'what happened?' 'does it hurt if I touch it?' 'he's gone to the dark side run!'

"Gawett, don't be stupid I didn't go ovuh to the dawk side." The boy sounded familiar. He was about to say something else but then John spoke up.

"You're late."

"Hey it's you!" The boy pointed at her, ignoring John. She realized that is was Kennedy. She looked up from the cookie and saw him with a white thing around his arm and a green backpack around the opposite shoulder. She looked back down at her cookie and heard him explaining that he just fell from the chair and landed on his arm. They all went back to what they were doing.

She was still staring at the cookie until she heard someone clear their throat. "What do you want butt face?" She looked up and saw him handing her a familiar looking action figure. She took it and had nothing to say. He took a seat beside her and put his backpack in between them.

"I saw Mizz June put it on the shewf so aftew scoow I stood on a chaiw and jumped so that I couwd reach. I got it but then I missed the chaiw and fewl on my awm." He lifted up his casted arm. "I saw you were cwying outside so I snuck back in the cwaswoom. Good thing the jawnitow saw me ow I would be in BIG twouble." He grinned at her. She didn't know what to say. She just stared at him. She was so mean but then he did that for her.

"Hewow? Anybody thew?" He waved his good hand in front of her face. "Want to watch some tv?" She shook her head. He pulled out a bright blue toy from his backpack which she recognized as the blue train they were fighting over earlier. She looked up at him with big eyes and he just laughed. "I'm Kennedy by the way."

"Katie." She held her hand out to shake.

"Wanna be the first to sign my cast?" He asked as he dug his bad for a black sharpie.

"Sure!" She preyed the sharpie from his hands, writing a big 'Katie', leaving little space for anyone else to write on it.
