Someone Somewhere

Chapter 1.

Jayda sat there in the back seat of Tony’s car with her head resting against the window as they drove along. She took her phone out of her pocket and checked what time it was before putting it away again and turning her attention back out the window. It was only nine thirty at night and Jayda was tired. As much as she hated being home, that’s all where she wanted to be. She had a feeling that wouldn’t go away. It wouldn’t leave her alone. She couldn’t figure out what the feeling was. Whether it was good or bad, but she felt the best thing to do was to just go home. “Hey loser, can you take me home please?” she said, talking to Tony who sat up front driving. She watched as Tony just looked at her, blank look on his face and then looking away again. “Fuck you Tony. Kaydyn, can you tell Tony to just drop me off somewhere or take me home? I’m not really in the mood to do anything tonight”. Jayda lay her head against the window of the car as Kaydyn turned around, gave her a smile and told her that they will get her home. She smiled back at him and closed her eyes for what seemed like a long time but was only a minute or two as her eyes shot back open at the sound of Tony’s loud voice

“what the fuck is guy doing?” Tony said, meaning the guy driving beside them. He sped up a little more before coming to a stop at a red light. Pulling up right next to the other guy’s car.

“Tony! Ignore him!” Jayda and Kylie both said in unison from the back seat. Kaydyn only encouraged Tony to do it. Jayda’s heart immediately began to speed up as she knew what Tony was about to do. She knew full well what was about to happen and that there was no way to talk Tony out of doing it. All she wanted was out of that car and she wanted out now. “Tony!! For fuck sakes, don’t do it!”

Tony just looked back at Jayda, giving her one of his devious smiles before again turning his attention back to the road in front of him, revving the engine of the car. “Let me out!!” she half yelled but it suddenly became too late for that as the light hit green and both cars immediately began to speed off down the long road. The other guy was slightly ahead but that still did not stop Tony from going. Jayda sat in the back seat of the car with Kylie, both wanting out and for this to all just stop. They both knew something terrible was going happen but there was nothing they could do. Jumping out of the car had gone through Jayda’s mind but their were no back doors and Tony had put the windows on lock. Including the sun roof. “FUCK TONY!! LET ME OUT RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!” she screamed as Tony only sped up more and more by the second. “I swear to fucking god Tony, you better fucking stop the god dam car and let me the fuck out right now!!!”

“Jayda! SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Tony yelled, speeding up even more as he came right up beside the other guys.

“YOU’RE GOING TO FUCKING KILL US MATE!!!” Jayda pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them tightly. She knew she should just stayed home that night and stayed mad at her parents. Her parents were the whole reason she went out. They were the whole reason as to why she was mad earlier and left the house to go hang out. To go get her mind off things. Now all she wanted to be back home. She’d rather be at home and be fighting with her parents and have them be screaming at her rather than be with Tony, Kaydyn and Kylie right now. If she had known this was going to happen, she wouldn’t have gone to hang out with Kylie earlier that night.

Jayda’s head shot up from her knees and her eyes shot open once again, as she had been squeezing them shut, as the sound of sirens suddenly filled the air. She watched suddenly as the guys in the other car unexpectedly pulled around a corner and Tony kept driving straight.

“Ah FUCK!!” Tony yelled as the cops were now behind them. He slowed down a little bit but too much from the speed he was doing as they neared an intersection.

“Tony, stop and pull over Mate!” Kaydyn yelled from the front passengers seat.
“There’s no cars at the intersection, I’ll stop and pull over then. Fuck off
Mate!” Tony yelled back as they got closer and closer to the intersection.

That’s when it all happened. Before any of them could even blink. Jayda’s head came in contact with the window as she was thrown against the side. It’s like everything just came to a stop and she watched in terror as the small white car flipped over and over and over again, skidding and spinning before coming in contact with the giant concrete blocks on the side of the road.

“TONY!! DRIVE! FUCKING DRIVE!!” Kaydyn screamed in terror as the car finally stopped spinning and Tony immediately took off again.

Jayda looked over at Kylie, who was bleeding intensely, and just stared in horror at her. She knew that was hurt to but that didn’t matter to her at the moment. She couldn’t even speak. She just stared in horror at Kylie.

Kylie looked up from the blood on herself and looked over at Jayda in terror of what just happened. Jayda and Kylie both sat there, not able to move or say anything as the whole thing played over and over again in the heads. Tony sped up even more. Kylie was the first to break the silence between the two girls.
“We killed them” she said in terror.

Jay sat up abruptly; screaming and sweat dripping from her body, slightly dampening her night clothes, heart racing abnormally fast as the nightmare came flooding back to her. She looked around to see where she was and came to realize that she was in her bed, in her room. She sighed in relief and put her hand to her chest and took slow and gentle breaths to get her heart and breathing back to normal again.
She hated how that night would come flooding back to her in her dreams sometimes and she just wanted it to stop. For it to just end. She wishes that night never happened or that there was something she could have done to prevent them from getting into Tony’s car. She blames herself for everything that happened that night. If she hadn’t have left her house that night, if she had just stayed at home instead of leaving because of her parents screaming at her, that 16 year old boy and that five year old girl would have still had their lives.
Even though she was proved to be innocent, she was still sent over to America and put in Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center where she stayed for one year and was then put in Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents for a year, where she is now, due to self-harm issues. She has lost all contact with both of her parents but still talks to her big brother Danny through phone calls and emails. Jay has not seen any of her friends or family since the day she was put into Fairfax Juvie Detention Center, other than her aunt her who is a counsellor at Commonwealth every second and last Friday of the month. Both places she has been put in have no visitations. The only contact she is aloud is thirty minutes on the phone twice a month and one hour computer time every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. All which she spends either emailing back and forth with her brother or talking to him on the phone.

Jay stood up from her bed and walked over to her dresser and grabbed out a pair of black skinny jeans and a tight plain black short sleeved V-neck and quickly changed into them before walking over to the window and opening the curtains. She squinted and threw her hands over her eyes as she was immediately blinded by sunlight. Don’t get me wrong, Jay loves the sun but just not when it goes shooting into her eyes like that. Jay smiled to herself as she sat back down on her bed and looked around her room. This place had really grown on her over the year and today was finally the day. The day she was free. Free to leave the place. Free to do whatever she wants. Free to go wherever she wants. Today was the day that she had been dreading; waiting for the past two years of her life and it was now finally here. Jay smiled, turning her attention to the door as it opened and in walked Nancy, one of her unit advisors. “Hey Nancy, I just have to throw my clothes into my bag and then I’m good to go” Jays smile never left her face. She was really excited and happy but also at the same time she was scared, nervous and a little terrified. “Oh Jayda, do you have to go?” Nancy somewhat half teased and Jay looked down at the ground. “Listen, you’re going to great Kiddo”

Jay looked up at Nancy and smiled, “I know I’m just…I don’t know...terrified in a way” her smile slowly dropped, “what if I screw up?”

Nancy walked over and sat down beside Jay on her bed, “Hon, listen to me. You’re not going to screw up. What happened those years ago was not your fault and you know that”

Jay looked to her side at Nancy who now sat beside her, “I know but I’m not talking about that though. I mean like what if something happens and then I end up doing something stupid. I don’t know what. I mean, I don’t have any bad feelings or anything like that, to be honest because I’m actually really excited and happy to be finally getting out of this place. Be free. It just scares me a little at the same time to”

“Well Jay, the best thing you can do is tell yourself that you’re strong enough to not let yourself do anything stupid. Make yourself believe that. I know you, Jay, and I know that you’re strong enough. You are a happy, energetic person, Jay, you’re also very strong about everything and very strong about making the right decisions. And I’ve been here with you since the day you started at Commonwealth just over a year ago and I have seen how much you have majorly improved, how even more incredible you have become. You just got to tell yourself that, alright?”

Jay couldn’t stop smiling now. She loved how Nancy always knew what to say and how to make someone feel better about themselves, “I will and thanks Nancy”

“Hey Kiddo, anytime. Now come on, finish packing your things. Your aunt is going to be here pretty soon to get you from this place”

Jay got up from her bed and closed the door behind Nancy before walking back over to her bed and grabbed her bag from underneath. She walked over to her dresser and began shoving what little clothes she had into her bag along with her tooth brush, hair brush, note books and whatever other little things she had. It only took her a few minutes before she was done. She threw her bag on over her shoulder and took one last look around the room, smiling again, before opening the door and walking out and down the halls to the main foyer. She stopped a few times along the way to say good-bye to people that she had become somewhat friends with the past couple of months. By the time she reached the front foyer her Aunt Karen was already there talking with a few of the workers, waiting to take Jay out of the place. “Hey Karen” she said, big smile, as she hugged her aunt and then hugged everyone else in there, saying good bye and thanks to them before turning back to her aunt. “You ready to get out of this place?” her aunt asked her, placing an arm around her shoulder. Jay looked around one last time before nodding, “more ready than ever” and with that being said, she walked out the front doors of Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents and followed her aunt over to the car. Jay stood there for a moment and breathed. Just breathed in and out with her eyes closed and a smile still plastered on her face. It’s been just over two years since she has been free. For two years she has been trapped inside gates and what not. They were aloud outside into the courtyards and all but not once in two years has she actually been in the outside world, the other side of the gates, and now she finally is again. “Its even more beautiful than I remember” she said to her aunt as they both climbed into the car.

“It sure is beautiful” Karen looked over at Jay and smiled. She was glad to see her so happy. “so, you ready to go see Danny?”

Jay bounced up and down in her seat excitedly, “does he still not know I got out a week early?”

“Nope, haven’t told him” Karen laughed at Jays excitement. It’s been two years since Danny and Jayda have seen each other. “he doesn’t know”

“I can’t believe I finally get to see my big brother after two years. I’m so excited”
