Three Cheers

"Did I say that?"

At home, Gerard didn't say anything about the band or tours or anything really. He and the girls went and watched TV, while I cleaned up a little, thinking about everything. Pieces of everything, really.

"What're you doing?"

I stopped picking up the girls' clothes from their bedroom floors. I was Thora's room; "Hmm?" I turned to face Gerard at the threshold.

"What're you doin'?" He said with time with a shake of his head.

"I'm cleaning." I answered.

"Why?" He smiled this time.

"Because it's dirty, and I doubt the girls would want to clean up."

He looked at me with a confused look, "What's going on?"

I dropped the shirt, and then I sat on her bed, groaning, "I don't know."

I place my palms against my cheeks and sighed. Gerard came over and sat on the other end of the bed; "What do you know? Or what's going on inside your head?"

"Do you think we can have a baby?" I asked him sincerely, my eyes focused on the clothes on the floor.

"We won't know for another few days."

I looked up at him, "No, in your opinion. Do you think?"

Gerard bit at the corner of his lip, "I really don't know."

"Honestly." I muttered.

"Yes." He replied quickly.

I furrowed my brow a bit, trying to understand him. I tried to read what was going on, or if he was telling me the truth. He kept his eyes on mine, looking right at me.

"Do you want a baby?"

He raised a brow, "Yeah. Why? You don't think I do?"

"I honestly don't know, Gee," I looked back at the floor, "You've got so much going on and I'm not even sure you can do all of it."

"That's what you're all quiet about?"

I nodded slowly, rubbing my neck, "Yeah."

"I'm not leavin' or anything, so don't worry about it," he put his arm around my middle, "Do you want me to do something or anything?"

"No, Gerard," I murmured, "Just... Y'know, tell me stuff. Stuff... Like, what you plan to do."

"I do," he rested his chin on my shoulder, "But, not all of it. I don't want to stress you out."

"I doubt I'll be stressed out."

He sighed softly, tickling my hair, "Fine, it's your funeral."

I rolled my eyes, "Don't be a jerk. Why would I be stressed out?"

"Because you think too far ahead." He chuckled, breath tickling my ear now.

"I'm not stupid," I muttered, "I just want to prepare myself, prepare the kids."

"For what?"

I looked at him, "For anything." I replied.

"I'm not gonna leave." He said, sternly this time.

"Did I say that?"

"No, but I figured you were thinkin' it."

"I wasn't thinking anything like that. I just said I was preparing for anything. You never know, you could go on a world tour, or you could end up putting out more comics."

"Oh."

"Don't jump to conclusions, you idiot." I kissed his cheek, "I was just thinking."

Gerard wrapped his arms tight around me, "I'm not gonna do anything drastic before tellin' you. I was talking to Ray, Frank and Mikey about doing something; we haven't even gotten a demo finished up yet."

I hummed softly, my hands placing on his. "Thanks."

"You think I wouldn't?"

I shrugged, "Wasn't sure."

He nuzzled his face against my cheek; facial hair scraped my skin, "I promise I will."

"You better."

Dr. White called me in a few days later. I was on my own, Gerard was with the guys and had Thora, while Busy was at school. I was a nervous wreck in the office, waiting and wondering.

I wasn't hopeful, I was just worried. I thought maybe something could be wrong. Something else, aside from infertility.

Dr. White came into the exam room, no expression. I wanted to see something, but he had a such a good mask on. I licked my lips and watched the folder in his hands, "Hello October."

"Hi." I murmured, "So, what's... What're the results?"

Dr. White sat on his stool, opening the folder, "Everything is alright so far, but I think we'll need to have a pelvis exam."

I exhaled, "That'll show my chances?"

He nodded, "And a few more test."

I licked over my lips, "Extensive?"

"Not too much." He said, looking over whatever was in my file.

"Okay." I answered.

He looked up at me, "Don't worry, I'm sure everything is fine."

I smiled slightly, feeling my stomach ache. I wasn't getting a good feeling. I felt nervous and anxious.

"When?"

"As soon as possible." Dr. White smiled.

"When will you know?"

"For you," he stood up, patting my hand, "Right away. I can see how anxious you are."

"I might throw up." I muttered.

Dr. White chuckled, "Take a deep breath, October, you'll be just fine."

Everything was okay after my exam, but the other test wouldn't be in until the next day. I was anxious still; I got home later than I thought. I came home to the girls screaming at one another.

I shut the door loudly, causing them to stop. "I'm tellin'!" Thora shouted. "Mama!"

I pulled my shoes off, anticipating my daughter to run into me. I set the keys on the table near the door, "What's going on?"

Thora came running from the hallway towards the bedrooms and grabbed my arms. She cried, hair a mess, "Mama! Busy hit me!"

I picked her up, "Where?"

She pouted and pointed to her mouth. Thora wasn't hurt, she was probably shocked that Busy hit her. "Why'd she hit you?"

Thora shrugged, burying her face into my chest next. I sighed, "Biz!"

"I didn't do it with my hand!" She yelled from her bedroom.

"Where's your daddy?" I asked Thora.

"Sleepin'."

I rolled my eyes, "He's sleeping while you guys are screaming at each other?"

"I dunno."

I went to the living room; sure enough, Gerard was asleep on the couch, his mouth opened. I reached over and smacked his face, "Wake up, you idiot."

Gerard reacted slowly, "Huh?"

"There's a war going on between our children," I told him, "How can you sleep?"

He sat up, "It was for a second."

I shook my head, "Go get Busy." I told him.

He got off the couch, "Where is she?"

"Her bedroom. She hit Thora."

Gerard looked at Thora holding onto me, "She okay?"

"Yes, now go get Biz."

He nodded, hurrying off, and calling her name, "Busy, come here."

I sat down on the couch with Thora, "Let me see your face."

She looked up at me, "It hurts." She fingered her bottom lip.

"What'd she hit you with?"

"A bear."

I looked her bottom lip over; it was a little red. "You're okay."

"But it hurts." She whined.

I kissed her cheek, "You'll live, Baby."

"Can I hit Busy back?"

I shook my head, "No."

She pouted again.

Gerard came out with Busy; she was staring at the floor. She walked slow, like she was headed to an electric chair. Gerard had a hand on her shoulder, sitting down and letting her sit beside him, between us.

"Why'd you hit Thora?" I asked her.

She shrugged.

Gerard looked at me. I sighed, "Biz, tell me."

Thora tugged my shirt, "It's because I want the baby and she don't."

I furrowed my brow, "What baby?"

Thora sighed, brushing her messy hair away, "Daddy said there's a baby and I want it."

I looked back at Gerard who looked down like Busy. I shook my head, turning to Thora, "First of all, Busy apologize to Thora for hitting her."

Busy looked up, "I'm sorry." She mumbled.

"Second, there isn't a baby, so your daddy is crazy."

Thora frowned, "Aw! Why not?"

"Because there isn't. Where would a baby come from?"

"The baby store." Thora said reasonably.

I laughed and kissed her forehead. "Mama hasn't visited the baby store yet, so there isn't a baby."

"Can we go?" She asked excitedly.

"No, not yet."

Thora exasperated, "Fine."

I hugged her, "One day, Baby, you'll get one, okay?"

She grinned, "'Kay."

I put her down, she grabbed Busy's hand, "C'mon!"

I shook my head as my two girls got up and went to go play as if nothing had happened. Gerard kept his eyes on the floor. "You're dead." I told him.

He huffed, "I know."
