Three Cheers

"Really?!"

My mom, Elsa and myself had prepared thanksgiving at my parents. Elsa had cooked the majority of the big portions of food, while I baked, and my mom prepped the salads. I brought Busy to help, but my nieces and nephews stole her attention immediately.

"How's everything?" my mom asked me as I mixed the chocolate cake batter.

"Good. Doctor says I'm progressing just fine." I explained.

"Busy told me you guys are trying to get a baby?" my mom looked at me with a skeptical look.

"We're adopting." I replied; my hand spun faster.

"Why?" she seemed curious, "I mean--"

I stopped her, "My illness and Gerard's absence?"

My mom hummed, "I just worry about you, October, you know that. I'd hate to see you so overwhelmed."

I smiled, "Mom, I haven't been so happy before. Everything is okay, Gerard is an amazing partner," I exhaled softly, pouring the mix into the pan, "We want another baby, since I can't have one naturally... For a while."

"Are you sure this is what you want?"

I nodded, "Yep." I set the pan in the oven, "This is exactly what I want."

"Okay..." she sighed heavily, "I don't want you too overwhelmed, you know. You can always call me or your dad when you need help."

I patted her shoulder, "I know mom, relax."

"I'm tryin', October. I'm tryin'."

Busy and Jill, my niece, we're making turkeys to place on the tree at my dad's. I taught Busy's how to trace her hand with a crayon; she was doing so well. My phone rang just as I was cutting out her little handprint; "Hello?" I balanced the phone between my shoulder and ear as I cut.

"Hey, it's me," I heard Gerard's voice, "What're you doing?"

"I'm cutting out Busy's hand; she's making turkeys for my dad's tree." I told him.

He sighed, "I forgot about the tree."

"My dad and brothers are going to get some tomorrow when we all go shopping."

Gerard sighed again, "Fuck, I wish I was there."

I frowned, "It's okay, Gee, we're managing."

"Yeah, but this'll be my first Christmas with Biz, and I'm missing thanksgiving." he sounded so sad.

"I'm sorry, honey," I said quietly.

"Lemme talk to B." he said quickly.

"Alright," I put the scissors down and tapped Busy's arm, "Daddy's on the phone."

She looked at me with a grin, "Daddy?!" she took the phone, "Daddy? That you?"

I shook my head with a laugh as her eyes brightened as she faced me and talked; "I go with Grandpa to gets our tree, daddy... Me too! I miss you!... I am... I loves you... Bye bye." Busy handed me the phone, "Here mama."

I took the phone, "Where are you anyways?" I asked curiously.

"Somewhere in the south." he grumbled, "I can't wait to come home."

"Yeah, I know, Gee. You always say that." I chuckled softly.

"It's true though," he laughed, "When are you going to see Carrie again?"

"Monday afternoon," I licked my lips, "Everything has been going fine, you know."

"I know, but I'm making sure--"

I cut him off, "My stomach is fine as well."

He chuckled, "I'm glad you're up to the routine."

"No worries, alright? Don't worry about me, if anything is wrong, I'll be the first to tell you, alright?"

"I know, I know. I can't help it, I worry. I am your husband."

I smirked to myself, "Okay, husband, just relax, wife has everything under control."

Gerard laughed harder, "Thanks wife."

"I can't wait until you come hope," I added softly, "I miss you Gee."

He sighed, "I miss you, too."

Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping passed by in a fast blur. Everything went by so fast; and the calls with Gerard were always regular. Busy and I missed him, but we got through it the best we could.

My dad had gotten our tree, but Busy didn't wartime decorate half of it until Gerard came home. The angel at the too of the tree was missing, because Busy hid it from me and Elsa. She didn't want the angel going up until Gerard was home. It's very hard to reason with a stubborn little girl who always got her way. I let her hold onto her stubbornness and left half the tree bare for Gerard.

As the days wound down, Busy tried to count the days. She knew he'd be home in the 23rd, she she kept her little pony calendar by her bed and had put stickers around the 23rd day of December. I really couldn't wait for him to come home, both for Busy and myself.

When the final day arrived, Busy was hyped up. She ran around holding onto the calendar and kept looking over the presents she had gotten him under the tree. She had wanted everything to be perfect for his homecoming.

It was around noon when I got a called that I expected to be Gerard. Even Busy sat on my lap when my phone rang; "Hello?" I had answered and Busy yanked my shirt.

"Hello, is this October and Gerard Way?" a woman asked.

"Daddy?" Busy asked while biting her lip.

I shook my head, "Yes, this is October." I answered the woman.

"Hi, my name is Rita Wells, and I believe I spoke to your husband about your adoption application." the woman said.

My heart began to beat quickly, "Oh... Oh, hi. My husband isn't here now."

"It's fine, I just wanted to tell you that we've approved your application. Your husband had said you all were looking to adopt a child right away."

It felt as if my heart was in my throat; "Yes, yes we are."

"Good news, Mrs. Way, we've matched you with a child. A little girl." Rita sounded more than excited.

It took a minute to register in my head, "R-really? Already?"

"Yes, ma'am, is that alright?" her excitement wavered.

I shook my head, while Busy watched me intently, "Yes, yes, I'm just... I can't believe it. Gerard should be home in a few hours." I exhaled, "Wow."

"Congratulations, Mrs. Way, I'm happy to able to deliver you the news."

My heart nearly burst through my chest; "So... So, we have a baby?"

"Yes ma'am," Rita chuckled soflty, "You can come see her this afternoon or tomorrow. She's in our facility going through the routine of check ups."

"Holy..." I mumbled, "I can't even... Thank you." i sputtered.

"You're welcome." Rita replied, "We can't wait to join you all."

"Me either." I exhaled softly.

After hanging up, I hugged Busy tightly. She groaned, "Mama!"

I loosened my arms, "Guess what, B."

"What?" she asked as he placed her hands on my cheeks.

"You got a baby sister."

Busy's eyes lit up, "Baby? What's the baby's name?"

"I don't know yet, but as soon as daddy gets home we can get her."

Busy jumped up happily, "Really?!"

I laughed, "Yes, really."

"Can I name her? Please?"

"We'll see, baby."
