Tristis Nox

Fighter with a Concussion

The fighting around me was quickly ended after I dispatched the last foe. I sheathed my knives in my boots and slowly walked over to where Anita was. “Are you okay?” I asked as I looked at her shoulder that was being examined by one of the villagers.
“Yes, looks worse than it actually is.” She smiled in pain. “From what I am told it was a clean stab that did not hit anything too vital. But it will take a while to heal unfortunately.” She frowned and twitched at the villager started sewing her up. “Why do you not go and check your head? You seem a bit unstable from the head butt you issued the man.”
“I look that bad?” Anita nodded and I laughed, but quickly stopped as a shock of pain bolted through my head. “Alright I’ll see you soon.” I waved good-bye as I headed to the stable instead of a healer. I looked around and saw many of our men wounded, but very few dead. It is still sad to think men have died today. *May God bless their souls and guide them safely home.* I prayed silently as I passed corpses. A movement to my right caught my attention and I jerked my eyes to the left. A man in pure white held out his hand to the fallen men. He sensed my watching and gazed up with celestial blue eyes. He gave me a small nod and smile before his attentions went back to what he was doing before. *It’s been a while…* I gave a small nod back before moving slowly towards the stable. The blood filled air was giving me more of a headache than I had before and by the time I got to the stable bile was threatening to come up. I went off to the side and vomited. I breathed deeply before more erupted from my stomach and I expelled it from my body. *Ugh, so gross. Though I do feel a lot better, for the moment at least.* I suddenly felt something soft on my back and warm air seeped through my clothes. “Hello my dear friend.” I smiled weakly at Aries. “Did you take care of everyone?” he shook his head and I smiled before slumping forward, barely holding onto Aries’s back. *Well, this isn’t good…* With my last remaining strength I pulled myself onto Aries’ back and then passed out.
The black void that caressed me slowly faded into a grey and white plane of existence. I stood up from my lying position and looked around not yet registering where I was. “Are you alright?” I jumped back and whipped my head forward only to see a familiar owl.
“Vay! Don’t do that, you scared me.” I shook my head noticing that it did not hurt.
“Sorry, I thought you would have recognized this place, but apparently you did not. Did something happen?”
“Why do you think there is something wrong?”
Vātēs cocked his head and replied, “Talon said you looked strange when you walked by.”
“Damn Talon ratted me out.” I groaned.
“Tris, what is wrong?”
“The village was attacked. I was doing fine, you know not getting ~that~ hurt, until I saw Anita. She got stabbed in the shoulder and was about to get her head cleaved off and I dashed at her attacker and knocked him to the ground. I owned that dude! Anyway, I was disoriented for a moment too long and he got on top of me and caught my hands above me.” Vātēs’s eyes tightened in anger, but said nothing, “So I head butted the man, which hurt terribly. Then I knocked him out and fought a bit more until the fight was over.”
Vātēs flew over to me and put a wing to the side of my head. “Are you okay?” He fretted.
I nuzzled his wing and replied, “Yeah, though I think I have a concussion. I puked and passed out on Aries’ back before you summoned me here.”
Sadness shown in Vātēs’s eyes as he whispered, “I wish I could come to your side and help you…”
I grinned gently, “It’s okay, Vay. Aries will bring me to someone and plus I heal fast. We all do after all. Thank you for everything you do and try not to worry about me too much okay?” I licked his owly cheek before stretching my legs. “Man, it feels like forever since I’ve been in my spirit wolf form.”
Vātēs chuckled before answering “It has been since you first arrived at Prince Carson’s castle.”
“You’re right! Too long, well I should be going I can feel my body trying to wake up. I will see you later?” I asked hopefully.
“Yes, one way or another I will see you later. Farewell, my friend.”
“Farewell.” I whispered as I faded from the grey and white plane to one of pain. *Ouch.* “Please be more gentle.” I mumbled as I regained consciousness.

So it's been a while since I read what I wrote and it took me by surprise that Tris licked Vay's cheek. I read a little more and went 'Oh yeah she's in her spirit form!" I feel silly for not remembering. Well, here's the next chapter, I hope you enjoyed. Cheers!
