I'll Be There

Double trouble

Dj found his personal ride waiting at the hotel entrance. No death ride across the world. He got into the foreign car with a sigh, missing his muscle car already. The streets and buildings brushed past like a pastel painting or movie scene as ordinary Russians traveled about their business. He wished Raven had come with him, but he understood how tired she was. Truthfully he was too, but as a member of the band he was obligated to meet up with everyone else for the first time in months.
He was greeted at the restaurant by a translator and told everybody else was already there. Dj thanked her and went inside to find his bandmates. They all yelled and smiled at him as he sat down beside Richard. “Where’s your girlfriend?” Axl cooed, “don’t tell me you dumped her AFTER we got to Russia?” Dj took a breath. Axl really wasn’t like this, he just had an unfair hatred for Raven and he didn’t know why. “No Axl, she’s in our room asleep, long trip.” “Ah.” The singer said, and he dove right into the subject. “So, with everybody now here, let’s talk shows!” And the discussion began throughout all of dinner, lasting a good couple hours.
By the time Dj got back to the hotel he was exhausted too. He just looked forward to climbing in bed with his girl and awaiting the amazing show tomorrow. When he got in his room however, she wasn’t there. “Raven?” he called. No answer. He yanked his phone out and texted her. “I know she wanted to explore, but by herself is she crazy??” Dj mumbled to himself, getting worried. When she didn’t answer he called her. It went straight to voicemail. Well that explained why she wouldn’t text back. He started pacing, wondering how to find her and if she was ok. He was just starting to call for help when the door opened. He caught his breath and saw Raven walk in. She was soaked and looked exhausted. “Hey baby.” She said, falling on the bed. “Ray?” he asked anxiously, shaking her arm. She was passed out.
I woke up to my head pounding. I glanced at the clock. Dj had only been gone an hour. “Damn.” I mumbled, sitting up. I couldn’t sleep. I figured he couldn’t be gone much longer, I’ll just wait until he gets back. My eyes traveled slowly to the window, drawn to the setting sun bouncing off of buildings. “Well…it couldn’t hurt.” I said to myself, searching for my shoes. I wanted to see at least a little of my temporary home before the curiosity killed me. I made sure to pick up my room key and phone before I headed out.

The hotel was pretty empty, so I left without notice. People were starting to clear out of the streets. I wandered around slowly, not wanting to get lost. I pulled out my iPod, wanting to put on some nice music for the walk, when suddenly a kid flew past me and grabbed it from my hand. “Hey!” I yelled. The girl turned around and gave me an innocent look. “Меня?” she said. I’m sure my face showed complete confusion, for she giggled and ran off. I ran after her. “Hey kid, give me my iPod back!” I yelled. She kept running, dashing nimbly through pedestrians. It was getting darker out. “Damn.” I mumbled, “This is what I get for taking a walk, I wanna go home!” I growled, picking up the pace. She leaped off the sidewalk and into a park. I followed her, but she was already at the other end. Then suddenly the sprinklers popped out. I was drenched in freezing water. “Dammit!” I yelled. Now I was pissed. I trekked through the mud and caught up to her. She was sitting on the ground laughing. I snatched my iPod back and glared at her, arms folded. “Oops?” She said. “Oops.” I nodded, unamused. She took off down a trail and I lost sight of her.
“Fucking kids.” I growled, trying not to get my iPod wet. Then I remembered. I snatched my phone out of my back pocket. It was soaked as well. Just then the screen lit up, Dj was calling me. “Fuck it all.” I muttered angrily, watching my phone short out and die. Luckily we hadn’t made too many turns, so I memorized the route backwards and hurried back to the hotel as quick as I could. Dj was pacing as I walked in, and I could see he looked worried. “Hey baby.” I said, exhausted from running so far. I couldn’t breathe. I found the bed and passed out.
