The Life of She

calm

She was at the top of the food chain. Even though it didn’t feel like it, she was in her final year of high school. Every time she looked in the mirror, she expected to look different, older, but she thought she looked the same. She was still the same adult she had been last year.

It was only the beginning of the school year, the beginning of the end everyone said, but she just didn’t feel it yet. It was just another year of school, another seven more classes that she would have homework for. What was so different about this year, except for the harder work load?

She met up with her friends for the first hello in two months for some. A smile came to her face as she hugged missed friends or waved at a familiar teacher. She would never admit it, but it felt good to be back, even if it was school.

She took all her classes in stride, like she did every year, and her work ethic never changed. It was only another year of high school.

After that day, she never had a calmer memory.
