Even if it Kills Me

Part NINE: Pulling The Trigger

I fought him. He was having trouble with my pants, so he turned to removing my shirt, instead.

He managed to get that off, but I wasn’t going down without a fight. I scratched, screamed, kicked, and did whatever I could do to prevent him from going any further.

“Don’t be that way,” he cooed.

I spat in his face. He gripped my wrists firmly in his hands and pinned them against the bed.

I screamed as loud as I could, hoping someone would hear me. I thrashed and kicked, trying to wrestle away from his grip.

Tears flowed down my cheeks. My throat was sore.

I knew I couldn’t fight him off for much longer.

“Haruka!” I felt my heartbeat quicken at his voice. It sounded like he was just in the next room. Maybe I was crazy, but I didn’t care. I decided to take a chance.

“Aoi!” I cried.

The door swung open and there stood my knight in shining armor.

“Get the hell away from her!” He screamed, lunging at Ikuto. They toppled onto the ground, Aoi swinging furiously.

Uruha came in, armed with a gun.

“Move, Aoi.” He commanded, aiming at Ikuto.

Aoi leapt off of him and came back towards me.

His arms found me and held me against him protectively.

“I’m so sorry…” he whispered, kissing my forehead.

“I’m just glad you’re here,” I told him, tears rolling down my cheeks.

He grabbed my shirt from the floor and helped me put it back on. He wrapped his arms around me protectively while Uruha cornered Ikuto.

“Don’t, Uruha!” I warned.

“Why not?” he cried.

“I don’t want to see you go to jail for murder! Let the police handle this!” He knew I was right. He backed off, but still kept the gun ready in his hands.

“Let’s get out of here,” he muttered.

We crept through the building and made it to a parking lot, when we heard gunshots.

“Get down!” Aoi yelled, warning Uruha and pulling me down with him.

“Go, go, go!” Aoi lifted me onto my feet and gave me a slight push. I ran and followed after Uruha.

“Don’t look back!” Aoi warned, knowing that I so badly wanted to.

We made it around another warehouse.

“I think we lost them,” I panted.

Uruha wiped sweat from his brow.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of a gun being cocked.

I turned to see that one of Ikuto’s thugs had a gun aimed right at my heart.

Before I could react, I saw something move in front of me and the sound of a gun being shot.

“AOI!” I shrieked.

I heard another click and a shot ring out from behind me. I looked at Uruha. He was the one who had pulled the trigger. I looked back at the thug, who was lying in a pool of his own blood.

Just like Aoi.
