When It Hurts

Alisha stood in the rain freezing, with only a t-shirt to keep her warm, waiting for a cab to come. No one stopped to help her, they just looked and walked by. She thought that maybe she was too ugly for people to care about, but how shallow could society be?
Her dark ebony hair was soaking wet, her skin was as white as snow and her mascara was running down her cheeks, no wonder people were ignoring her.

Alisha grew up in a small town, and she was different to the others, she didn't like what they liked, she wasn't 'mainstream', she was her own person, her own style, a different style no one had thought to see in the town.
You would never see Alisha without a Hans Christian Andersen novel in her arms, she huddled into a corner at the local school at lunchtime and read, it was like her safe haven, those books. She didn't show much skin, not even in swimming lessons, she would always have an excuse to stay out of the water. Alisha always wore a long, navy skirt, white fluffed socks and a buttoned, long-sleeve collar shirt, no matter what the weather was like, and she would survive, even on the hottest days. And she wasn't much for socializing but no one wanted to talk to her anyway, she was so shy and quiet, she just minded her own business, but they didn't leave her alone, they bullied her until she left the town, her parents didn't even try to help her so now here she is, in the city, trying to get through life.

And then he saw Alisha, on the other side of the road, and he ran to her and covered her with his umbrella and jacket and he took her home, to his house. She thanked him for helping her and he smiled, that smile lit up her world, he is gorgeous, she thought to herself, the perfect, I would trade him for anything, I want to have him, I want him to be mine.
She showered at his house, dried herself off, and wore the clothes he had loaned her. With no make up Alisha went out to greet him.
