Jayden

Jayden jumped on the scale for her mother. “Wow, Jay” Claire said. “20 pounds in only 4 months, you’re good” Jay smiled slightly. She felt like crap but she felt beautiful. She felt skinny. “Okay, now weigh me”

Jayden switched places with her mom. “4 pounds since last week” Jayden said. “Good” Claire smiled.

“Progress is progress. Go get your sister up for school” Claire said. Jayden headed upstairs. She went straight into the bathroom. She looked like shit. She didn’t feel like herself anymore.

She decided at school that she would stop her little eating disorder thing. It’s technically not a disorder if she’s willing to stop.

As soon as she went to school, she was offered food by almost everyone she saw, and she somehow found herself denying food even though she was starving. Her mouth was saying no but her mind was saying FUCK YES!

By the end of the day she had only had a banana and half a carton of chocolate milk. “You look so sick” Kaya told her. “Are you feeling okay?” Jayden nodded. “You sure?” the world started spinning, and soon she was on the ground. “JAYDEN!” Kaya exclaimed.

Jayden woke up in the nurses office. She looked at the clock immediately, only about 15 minutes had passed. Kaya was waiting in the door frame.

“Hey” she said. She sat besides her. “You feeling better?” Jayden shook her head.

“I’m not feeling well” Jayden ran to the bathroom and locked herself inside. She did the unthinkable. She stuck two fingers down her throat and through her tiny lunch back up. She sat on the ground and propped her back up against the wall. “What the fuck is wrong with me” she asked herself. Now she had some serious problems.

She flushed the toilet and got up. She could over hear her mom and the nurse talking.

“Well we completely ruled out an eating disorder” the nurse said. “She buys a full lunch everyday, according to her lunch account. Kaya says she’s been eating a bit, this might be a fluke”

Claire nodded. “I’ll take her home and talk to her about it, try to get some answers. I’ll get to the bottom of this”

Kaya hugged Jayden from behind. “I hope you feel better”

“Me too” she said.

“I grabbed your back pack and some of your homework” Kaya said.

“Thanks Kay, now go get back to your boyfriend” Kaya smiled then she left.

Jayden stood in the door frame of the nurses office. “Hey sweetheart” Claire said. She didn’t call her that often. “You feeling better?” Jayden lied and nodded. “Let’s go home”

“I have an eating disorder” Jayden said to the mirror. “I have bulimia” she said again. “I have anorexia nervosa” she scrunched her nose. Which one did she have?

Getting out of school was nice, she was only in school for half the day. She liked the panic and the disorder, she’s always liked disorder. She was waiting for someone to realize how terrible her home life was, besides Brandon. She wanted the school to figure out about the emotional abuse going on, it hurt just as much.

“I have a problem and I should seek help” Jayden said to herself in the mirror. Then she looked further into herself. “But I don’t need help. This is powerful. I feel powerful” she said.

She knew just by having one she could get rid of her mother easily. She could feel the power on her shoulders.

This feeling fueled her even though she didn’t have food in her stomach to do that.

“I’m feeling a lot better, thank you Kaya” Jayden said. they headed down the hall to first period. Already Jayden was feeling super light headed and dizzy but she made her way. She hadn’t eaten for 24 hours straight and she felt lovely.

“Your welcome, you didn’t miss much. Jill continued to be a bitch, the teachers continued to teach, Liv continued to be awesome and well…Steve was adorable as always” they both giggled.
“Usually when I miss school I miss something cool, so I’m glad I didn’t miss anything important” Jayden started to lose control of her vision, she had to stop walking.

“You okay?” Kaya asked.

“Um…yeah…” Jayden took a step, but that contributed in falling to the ground and fainting again.

“Fucking hell!” Kaya exclaimed. Someone got a teacher. “Something’s wrong, I know something is”

The next time Jayden woke up she was in the hospital. “Fucking hell” she muttered.

Claire was by her side looking out the window. “This has gone out of control” Claire said.

“I’m sorry it’s hard to control, you’re the one wanting me to lose weight”

“Not like this” Claire said. “I’ve been eating less, but eating at least, along with some exercise, your killing yourself Jayden!”

“Like you care, you only care about your image, you don’t care about my health”

“Yeah I do, funeral’s cost a lot of money these days” Jayden rolled her eyes. “Promise me this is over”

The doctor came into the hospital room. “You haven’t eaten one full meal in at least 72 hours”

“I feel lovely” Jayden said. This comment disturbed them all.

Brandon walked into the hospital room. “Hey Jazz” he started.

“Who are you?” the doctor asked.

“The concerned boyfriend” he said.

“DO you know why she’s here”

“I’m assuming she has a eating disorder or something. Her mom’s on this quest to have a perfect life, boy, kids, job, everything. She’s always pressured Jazz to have perfect grades, and a perfect body and everything. It’s killing her” the doctor turned to Claire briefly before turning to Jayden who was smiling like a crazy fool.

“I’ll be right back” the doctor said. the doctor left the room. Claire wanted to yell but she couldn’t, not in public.

“I love you, Brandon” Jayden muttered. Brandon smiled.

“Love you too, Jazz”

The doctor came in later, along with Brandon’s mom. “We’ve reached an agreement”

“Mom?” Brandon asked.

“I’m fostering Jayden” Brandon’s mother said. “Until certain mothers can learn how to parent” she stared right into Claire’s soul. Jayden was still smiling.

“We’re first going to think about sending Jayden to a special house for a while for recovery”

“House?” Jayden asked. “Like a mental asylum?”

“No, just a sanctuary. You’ll be with other kids with bulimia and kids suffering from other problems like depression, ADHD, etc”

“Oh” Jayden was surprised, she thought she could start a new life. Looks like that wasn’t happening.

“It’s for the best, Jazz” Brandon said. Jayden nodded.

Brandon looked into Jayden’s room. They had converted an extra spare guest room into Jayden’s temporary room. Claire was required to take parenting classes while Jayden was away, when Claire completed all 10 classes she was evaluated and then she might get Jayden and her other daughter back. For right now they were both in separate homes in Massachusetts getting treatment for their problems.

During that time all Brandon could think about was Jayden, he wanted to marry that girl. Brandon wanted to marry Jayden and protect her from all the evil in the world, he wanted to keep her safe forever in his arms.
