I'll Never Let You Go

Dearest Rhia,

Again, sorry for such a long break between writing. Mary said yes! I'm really happy. I hope you're happy too, wherever you are. I know I said I'd never love another, but I really do care for her. I'm not in love, not just yet, but it could happen.
Regardless of how mine and Mary's relationship progresses, I don't want to think you meant nothing. You did, you meant everything.
You were my first girlfriend, my first kiss, my first 'I love you', my first time, my first for near enough everything.
You were to first girl to ever break my heart, but I guess that wasn't your fault but mine. You broke mine because I broke yours first. Tit for tat. And eye for an eye. We were always like that, in competition with each other.
You know what they say though, 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'.
Maybe we should have thought about that.
