Cadaverous

“Wait…you were pregnant?” he asked through trembling lips. Now I didn’t want to sound cliché and say that I watched the glimpse of light disappear from his already dull eyes, but that’s exactly what happened. People really weren’t lying with that comparison. The air grew thick with tension and fear as I crossed my arms and continued to lean against the wall while he stood in a mere crumble before me. “What?” he finally croaked.

“I had to get rid of it,” I shrugged it off. His first tear fell and landed on my sock as he fell to his knees, grasping at the air for something; anything. I remained emotionless.

“Just, why?” he sobbed.

I peered up towards the ceiling and puffed my cheeks out, preparing myself for my next sentence.
