Chase Away the Darkness

Goodbye

“I don’t know Mickey this doesn’t seem full proof,” said Hanna

Hanna was doing her makeup in the bathroom mirror, while I watched. She already tortured me and covered me in make-up. According to her it wasn’t a lot but I couldn’t help feel like one of my old Barbie styling heads. We were about to go out tonight at some fancy bar, Dave’s treat. I didn’t want to wait any longer to talk to Tony so tonight was going to be the night that my plan was going to work. Hopefully.

“Of course it isn’t but you have any other ideas?” I asked.

She stopped putting on her eye shadow and faced me.

“I just don’t like my part of the plan,” she said.

“How else am I supposed to talk to Tony?” I asked.

I couldn’t stop replaying the make out session I had with Tony all day. This kiss wasn’t like the first one. He was actually sober this time. He knew what he was doing. So does this mean he likes me? I mean surely someone must find another one attractive to kiss them like that. What if that was it? What if all he did was find me attractive? He wanted nothing more. Nothing serious.

And when he said, “ I much rather be here,” insinuated that he rather be with me and not with Audrey.

This was far too complicated.

“So repeat this plan again,” said Hanna.

“While everyone is out tonight at the bar you’re going to work your magic and distract Audrey. While I get Tony alone.” I repeated to Hanna for the hundredth time.

“And what exactly am I suppose to say that’s going to distract her?” asked Hanna.

“I don’t know make something up! Hanna please don’t make this difficult, I really need your help,” I said.

“Fine, let’s just get this over with,” said Hanna, “now go put that outfit on that I laid out for you on the bed.”

She went back to putting on her make-up and I was forced to face the little black dress that laid on my bed waiting for me. I had no other choice; my jeans are not going to cut it tonight. The dress was short and long-sleeved. It looked harmless from the front, but the back was completely open.

Times like these when I think, I hate my life.

I managed to get into the dress in less than a minute and I threw on Hanna’s borrow black leather heel’s that she likes to call her Lita’s. Yeah I know she names her shoes. Weirdo.
I looked in the mirror and messed with my hair a bit. When I was about to nick and pick at my body someone knocked on the door.

“Can you get that?” yelled Hanna from the bathroom, “I’m gluing my eyelashes on.”

Someone was going to see me in this outfit earlier than I thought. Fuck.

I opened the door and facing me was Austin.

“You know you are one hard girl to track down,” he said.

It was only Austin. I was able to relax. Any other girl would probably be horrified, but for some reason I felt comfortable. He looked at me up and down and then whistled.

“Damn, where are you going?” he asked.

“Somewhere fancy, now can I help you?” I asked and I couldn’t help but smile.

“May I come?” he asked. He had a big smirk on his face.

“Sorry invites only,” I said. He made a sad puppy dogface.

“Well if you change your mind or get bored, you can come hang out with me. I’ll be in my room. You know where it is,” he said.

“Mickey! Who is it?” yelled Hanna from the bathroom.

And with that Austin winked and walked away.

Hanna opened the bathroom door.

“Was that Austin I heard?” she asked.

“Yup,” I answered sheepishly.

“He really seems to like you, too bad he is totally your type,” said Hanna.

But Tony was my type too….

“Whatever can we go now? I’m getting nervous about what were about to do,” I said.

“Yeah okay let me put on my clothes,” said Hanna.

She threw on a high waisted floral skirt with a black bustier and paired it with red pumps leather jacket, and a fedora.

Butterflies were flying around the bottom of my stomach as we took the elevator down stairs. I was really nervous now. The problem was that I didn’t know if I was nervous about the plan not working out and not being able to complete Jaime’s wishes or that I was about to talk to Tony. Either way it had to be done.

“Alright everyone is waiting for us outside of the hotel,” said Hanna, looking down at her phone.

We walked outside and there everyone was waiting.

“Finally!” yelled Audrey rolling her eyes at us. She was in her little group of friends and they were all matching in bright mini dresses. Of course she was the one wearing hot pink and sparkles.

“No need to yell at them Audrey, we’ve only been waiting for five minutes, plus the cabs aren’t here yet.” Said Vic.

I saw a sight I had never seen before. All the boys were in suits. Oh my god. They looked good. I tried not to look at Tony but I couldn’t help it. He was…what do kids say these days? Oh yeah, bomb.

“You want me to talk to that?” asked Hanna.

“All you need is to distract her,” I whispered.

Finally after what seemed like hours the cabs arrived. My heels were already killing me and I was about to run the other way and forget about this whole plan.

Hanna and I shared a cab with Dave. It was silent drive except for Dave’s constant texting. Then he sighed.

“What’s the matter?” asked Hanna.

“Don’t tell any one this but Tony’s texting me asking me to lie to Audrey,” he said.

What in the world…

“Lie about what?” I asked.

“Again don’t tell any one this I trust you girls,” said Dave.

Hanna and I both nodded.

“He wants me to tell her that she can’t come to the shows after Vegas,” he said, “I don’t know why, but I can’t her dad is rich she’ll just throw a bitch fit and then I’ll have him threatening to fire me again.”

“Wait what?” asked Hanna and I, totally confused.

“Yeah didn’t you know? Audrey’s dad is head of the record label. He’s my boss’s boss,” he said.

That was all too much to take in at once. Why didn’t Tony want Audrey around anymore? Was it because of me? And Audrey’s dad is head of the record label? This just makes everything worse.

“I don’t like Audrey as much as anyone else does, but she’s Tony’s girlfriend and he loves her,” said Dave.

“Wow,” said Hanna.

Wow indeed.

Before we knew it we were at our destination. We got out of the cabs and entered the fancy hotel. Everyone followed Dave to a small fancy gold doorway which I believed was the bar. Damn Dave went all out for this. Then it hit me. This isn’t Dave’s treat. It’s the label’s treat. Audrey’s dad paid for this. I suddenly felt cheap and dirty.

Right when we walked in I grabbed Hanna’s arm and pulled her quick and ran to fine a restroom. After entering I checked to see if all the stalls were empty and locked the door.

“What the fuck Hanna!” I yelled.

“I know I’m shocked too,” she said.

“Audrey is more involved with this than we thought,” I said, “ This plan it can’t happen, if it fails and she catches me talking to Tony alone she will get mad.”

“…and possibly tell her dad,” said Hanna. Yup

I was getting a headache from it all.

“Well she’s going to eventually find out about you fan crush on Tony, that will probably get her mad too,” said Hanna.

She was more dangerous than I thought.

“Let’s just go have fun and drink,” said Hanna, “we’ll figure out something else tomorrow.”

“Okay,” I agreed.

Hanna and I walked out of the bathroom and towards the bar.

Two hours later we were still drinking and pretty drunk when all of a sudden Tony walked up to us. I right away scanned the area for Audrey she was nowhere in sight. I still felt uncomfortable. Hanna herself was watching her back.

“Don’t worry she left,” yelled Tony over the loud music, “she got bored and took a cab home.”

Hanna and I both relaxed.

“Can I talk to you?” asked Tony looking at me.

I looked at Hanna. She nodded and got up and walked towards Mike. I thought I saw him behind the bar making his own drinks. I must be really drunk.

“Where do you want to talk? It’s too loud in here!” I yelled.

He looked around bar and then gestured me to a curtain that was guarded by a bouncer. No doubt a V.I.P room.

He must have figured I was drunk again because he grabbed my hand gently and led me. He gave the bouncer a few 20’s and he let us in letting us know that we had only 5 minutes. The little room was empty and I could barely hear the music outside.

“What did you want to talk about?” I asked.

“What did you do to me?” he asked.

“What?” I asked totally confused and intoxicated.

“You know what I mean, after that kiss I can’t stop thinking about you. Everyone is noticing that I changed. I’m supposed to love Audrey.”

I suddenly snapped out of my drunkenness and sobriety hit me hard with a bat.

Well I guess my plan could still happen. Well my plan minus the pull the Jaime on Audrey part. She disappeared for me. This was my chance

“Tony, this has to stop. Jaime he knows, that we kissed. He said he’s going to tell everyone if you don’t go back to being yourself,” I said.

Everything was true; I just left out the me being a fan girl and all part.

“Wait, Jaime knows? Why is he doing this?” asked Tony.

“Because he’s your best friend Tony. You are lying. I’m lying. He’s trying to make us fix this before anyone finds out,” I said.

That’s when I realized it all. Jaime was just scaring me. He wouldn’t tell everyone about my fan crush. He knew what would happen if Audrey found out about me. She would go to her dad. The band would suffer because of me. Jaime was bluffing. He knew I would talk to Tony right away if my secret were at stake. I can’t believe it took me to get drunk to realize this.

“So I have to just pretend, that I don’t have feelings for you?” he asked.

My body shook. He has feelings for me. I started crying.

“You have feelings for me?” I asked while sniffling.

“No don’t cry, you’re to pretty to cry,” he said wiping my tears, “and yeah I like you a lot Mickey. I know we don’t really know each other. But I’ve come to appreciate your personality and beauty.”

This was really happening. Tony liked me and there was nothing I could do about it.

“I like you too Tony but unfortunately this can’t happen,” I said.

He didn’t say anything. He didn’t have to. He knew it couldn’t happen either.

He looked at me and smiled.

“Can I give you kiss?” he asked, “I feel bad not asking since I kissed you twice already without your permission.”

I nodded.

He kissed me softly and gently at first. Then it became passionate and wild. We both pulled away for air. Then he just hugged me and just held me there.

“Time is up,” yelled the bouncer from the other side of the curtain.

We walked out of the V.I.P room and back into the loud bar only find Dave, Jaime, and Vic. No one seemed to notice the coincidence that we were gone.

“Where’s Hanna?” I asked Vic.

“She left with Mike. They were making out right before they took a cab back to the hotel,” laughed Vic.

Oh Hanna…

“So you guys ready to go?” asked Dave, “We have warped tomorrow.”

Everyone nodded.

We walked out of the fancy hotel. Two cabs were waiting.

“Mikayla, you can ride with Tony,” said Dave, “the rest of us will go in the other cab.”

My heart picked up. I have more alone time with Tony.

Jaime gave us a look but I didn’t give him the satisfaction.

Tony and I climbed in. It was different from the ones earlier. There was a black tinted window dividing the driver and the passengers. Like a limo, perfect.

Tony shut the door and scooted closer to me leaving no space in between.

“You need to wear that dress more often,” said Tony putting his hand on my leg.

My breathing hitched.

“Can’t, it’s borrowed,” I said seductively. Whoa! Where did this girl come from? I had no idea I had a Greek goddess inside of me.

“Well I’m sure Hanna will be gladly let you borrow it again,” he said.

We started making out again. I had to stop Tony a few times from trying to pry off my clothes. I couldn’t get too carried away. We were almost at the hotel so we began our dreaded goodbye.

“I don’t want to say goodbye,” he said.

“Me neither,” I said.

“Promise me that it won’t be weird again after all this,” he said.

“No I don’t want to be distant with you when I don’t have to, plus we have to act normal,” I said.

When we arrived at our hotel he kissed me one last time and we went our separate ways. Panic struck me when I realized that I couldn’t go back to my room. Hanna most likely is hooking up with Mike there.

It took me a few minutes to remember that I had a Plan B. I looked at the time it was barely midnight. Well I hope he was still awake.

I went to the little convenience store that was conveniently placed before the elevators and I bought some snacks. I traced back the steps from earlier this morning and found my way up to Austin’s room.

I knocked on the door.

“I told you Alan, I don’t want to cuddle!” yelled Austin and he opened the door.

“Oh,” he said with a surprised and embarrassed look.

“And here I thought I was the only special one,” I said, “Seems Alan gets the same privileges.”

“Wow I didn’t think you were going to come back,” said Austin, “and you came with snacks!”

“Yup I figured it’s still early and we can watch a movie,” I said.

“Hanna is boning in your room isn’t she?” asked Austin.

“Oh god, yes with Mike,” I admitted.

Austin laughed.

“Well even though you are using me, I still can’t let you sleep on the floor,” he said, “to pretty for that.”

Second time I heard that tonight…from two different guys.

He let me in and closed the door behind me.

“Well what do you want to watch?” he asked.

“Um I don’t know, do you have Star Wars?” I asked.

He paused and his mouth opened a little bit.

“You like Star Wars?” he asked.

“Yeah why?” I asked.

“I think I just got a boner,” he said.

“Ew!” I yelled.

“Wait first things first,” he said, “You need to get out of that dress.”

I looked at him shocked that he just said that.

“…and into comfortable clothes, stop thinking perverted,” he finished.

I smacked him on the shoulder and he handed me a pair of sweats and a t-shirt.

While I changed in the bathroom my emotions got to me again. I started thinking about Tony and our whole star-crossed lovers dilemma.

“What episode do you want to watch?” yelled Austin.

I snapped back into reality.

“Um I don’t know you choose!” I yelled from the bathroom.

“Episode 2? I know you girls like the whole romance thing,” he yelled.

Normally I would have said yes. I love the forbidden romance storyline but that hit too close to my situation with Tony.

“No pick from the original,” I yelled again.

“Return of the Jedi it is,” he yelled back.

I finally put myself together and joined Austin.

I took the spot on his bed that I woke up to this morning. It was all too comfortable.

“So how was your night?” asked Austin.

“Shhuuussshhh! The movie is starting!” I said.

Austin gave me a look.

“Did something happen between you and Tony?” he asked.

“How can you read me so well?” I asked.

“I don’t know sometimes you’re predictable and sometimes you do things like show up to my room when I gave up hope that you were going to come,” he said, “now spill.”

I explained to him what had happened today after I left his room this morning. I trusted him.

“Well at least you got a cool piercing out of it all,” he joked.

He made me laugh.

“Well it sucks that you and Tony can’t work things out,” he said.

“Oh shut it, we both know you are excited about that,” I said.

“True, but I don’t like seeing you sad and I know Tony makes you smile,” he said.

I don’t know why but I started thinking of Austin the way I thought of Tony. Maybe I can gain more than just a piercing after all this.

“You make me smile too,” I said. Whoa! inner goddess is at it again.

“I’m glad to hear that,” he said.

He leaned in and his lips met mine. I couldn’t help but notice the tiny butterflies moving in my stomach.

This is okay right? I’m not a horrible person for kissing two different guys in the same night right? Plus Tony and I can’t happen, I’m allowed to move on. Austin doesn’t really seem to care. My concern was with Tony. What would he think if he saw me and Austin?

Exhaustion took over me and I broke the kiss.

“Maybe we should forget about the movie and go to bed, I’m tired and plus you have a show tomorrow,”

“Okay,” he agreed.

He turned off the TV and the lights and we sunk deeper into the covers. Facing each other in the dark, Austin wrapped his arms around me and kissed me on the forehead.

I smiled at the thought of waking up twice next to Austin.

At least I was sober enough to remember all this in the morning.
