Restive Sleep

The Dark

Where is he?

“Rhunws!” she screamed. Her voice echoed around her, Rhun, Rhun, Rhun. The name changed as it returned to her ears. Everything was changing. Melting together, making darker shades of grey. She kept pounding on the door, but it still wouldn’t budge.

And then she heard it in the distance, a faint familiar voice. It rolled over the hills and trees with the wind. Nothing moved as she took a few steps away from the door and toward the sound. Everything went silent, except for the voice.

“Don’t touch her.”

It wasn’t him. It was someone else, someone else she knew very well.

“I’m sorry.” It was his voice that replied. Delilah looked around for signs of him. She could feel him near her, and yet, at the same time, he was miles away. “I didn’t mean—“ Their voices faded almost as fast as they’d arrived, and the darkness resumed closing in on her.

I suppose I should mention that in the Welsh pronunciation, Rhun is pronounced as "Reian" and Rhunws (which is the closest I could get to the name that was in the dream that I had that inspired all of this) is pronounced as "Reian-us"
