It's been a year since Klaus had pardoned Adella her life. Since then, she and Damon have begun living a normal life amongst the chaos that has consumed them. Between the anticipation of Klaus' return, Stefan going AWOL, and Katherine being Katherine, Adella has made her vampire lifestyle that of almost human. With the addition of Madden, their adopted daughter, Damon and Adella are molding to be a traditonal family.

But Damon and Adella are facing a darkness so large that the life they knew is a few shards of light from being a memory. Only Damon knows how to save them, but the thought is almost impossible. After all, he is only human.
