Problem Child

First Day

Aidan let out a sigh, running her fingers through her long, dark hair to push it out of her face. She had just received her schedule that morning for her first day of school, and it was messed up so now she was in the office, arguing with some woman at the front desk.

"Look, lady." Aidan snapped. "I already took Pre-Cal, I'm suppose to be in Trig!" The woman crossed her arms disapprovingly at Aidan's attitude.

"I've told you; you have to make an appointment with a counselor, I can't change your schedule." Aidan crumpled up her schedule and took a deep breath. "Now, I think you should head to class before you're late."

"Hey, what is that?" The woman looked down at her computer as Aidan pointed to it.

"My computer?" She responded, slightly confused by such an obvious question.

"Yeah! So why don't you stop being such a lazy-"

"Is there a problem?" Both women turned to look at the male voice that had just interrupted what was destined to be an argument. He was quite taller than Aidan, with short, sandy brown hair and green eyes; a pretty boy to say the least. Girls were already crowding around outside of the office window to get a look at him, though Aidan was hardly impressed.

"Hey, nice observation Sherlock." Aidan placed her elbows on the counter and rested her head in her hands. Of all the places on the planet, she had to have been sent to Mystic Falls.

"Not at all young man, this student was just heading to class." Aidan's head snapped up and she scrunched her nose in frustration, pointing a finger at the woman. "Can I help you, hon?" The boy smiled, leaning a bit closer to the woman,

"Why don't you help this young lady first, she seems like she's having a tough day." Aidan snapped her head back in astonishment as the woman went a little starry eyed before giving the boy a warm smile.

"Sure thing." She said dreamily, turning to her computer. Aidan looked from the boy to the woman as she had begun typing something. A moment later, she printed out a new copy of Aidan's schedule and handed it to her. "Here you go."

"What?" Aidan looked down at the paper in disbelief. After half an hour of arguing with this woman, all this boy has to do is ask her once and she just does it. Aidan's face went a slight shade of purple as she pinched her lips together. She wasn't sure if she wanted to deck the woman at the front desk, or the pretty boy. "Sexist fucking school." She growled, snatching the paper from the woman, whos face remained unchanged by Aidan's lack of courtesy. "Thanks dude." She said to the boy before turning to leave.

"Hey," Aidan stopped as she reached the door, turning back him. "do you think you could help me find my classes? I'm new." Aidan let out a laugh,

"Bro, this is my first day here, too. Just do what I do; if you can't find your class, don't go." The boy smiled, "Clearly it wasn't meant to be." Aidan shrugged, turning back to the door. "Oh, the name's Aidan B.T.W.."

"Stefan." Aidan pulled a face,

"Well, that's certainly different." She cracked a smile as the boy smirked and lowered his head in a nod. "Well good luck on leaving this office. Looks like you got a mob waiting for you." Aidan motioned towards the many groups of girls watching from outside.

"Yeah, thanks." Stefan glanced out at the girls as they quickly turned away. "I've noticed." Aidan couldn't help but to laugh. Sure, she had to deal with her annoying cousin, Elena, but this guy was probably going to get bombarded with phone numbers at lunch. Even with her current situation, she couldn't help but to feel a little pity for the guy.

"See ya around, then." Aidan gave a nod before finally leaving the office and taking a look at her new schedule. She knew that old bat could change it, she was just being stuck up.

"Hey you!" Aidan stopped short, looking up to see who had spoken. "You were talking to the new guy right?" It was one of the girls that had been watching.

"Hey you! You were getting a life right?" Aidan rolled her eyes as she mocked the girl and kept walking. She attempted to memorize her first few classes before noticing her cousin, Jeremy, talking discreatly to one of the pot-heads. She watched the boy hand Jeremy a small baggie and quickly turn to leave. Folding her schedule up and stuffing it into her back pocket, she hurried after her cousin.

"Hey Jerm." Jeremy smiled innocently down at her. He gave a quick look around before pulling her to the side.

"Are you about to try and blackmail me? Because if you tell Elena-"

"Relax, you know I'm not a snitch." Aidan brushed him off, "I just want some." Jeremy's eyes got a little big.

"What?"

"I saw him hand you a baggie, and I want some of what ever's in it." Aidan crossed her arms defiantly as Jeremy smiled and shook his head.

"You don't even know what it is." This was true, but Aidan could see that Jeremy's eyes were already a little red so she could only guess that it was marijuana.

"I don't care." Aidan was determined and Jeremy knew she wouldn't rest until she had what she wanted. It was one of the qualities he had always admired in his cousin, though sometimes it simply got her into trouble. With a sigh Jeremy reached into his pocket, grabbed something and without opening his hand to show her, shoved it into Aidan's front pants pocket.

"You didn't get it from me." He pleaded, heading off into the boys bathroom. Aidan smiled triumphantly, heading to her first period class. At least now she had something to look forward to after school other than having to go home to Elena, speaking of whom was making her way towards her at that very moment.

"What were you and Jeremy just talking about?" Elena questioned, crossing her arms. Aidan couldn't stand how nosy she could be. With a smile and a shrug, Aidan rolled her eyes up pretending to think.

"Gosh, I-" Aidan let out a sigh, "I can't remember." She innocently smiled. Elena rolled her eyes, shook her head, and headed into the boys bathroom after Jeremy. Sure, Aidan could have gone after her, but did she really feel like dealing with Elena right now?

"Hey, you were talking to the new guy right?" Aidan frowned, turning her head to face the girl that had just spoken.

"He's gay. Move on." She stated, leaving the girl slightly dumbfounded. It may not have been the best lie, but it may have saved Stefan from a few hormonal crazed girls. Aidan had done her good deed for the day and was only slightly sickened by it.
