Welcome, Summer

One

There was always something about the tourists that pissed 'Ailana off.

If it wasn't their accents, it was the way they were dressed. And if it wasn't the way they were dressed, it was the things they did. It was the American tourists that she found particularly annoying, with their shiny new surf boards and designer brand bikini suits. The fact that the American surfers kept discovering her surf hot spots didn't help either.

Perched on the edge of her friend's jeep, the twenty year old threw the boy on the beach a withering glance.

"Why did we have to come here?" she hissed, when she finally got Jason's attention. "It's full of tourists and wanna-be surfers."

The boy rolled his eyes.

"Come off your high horse, Lana. It's not that bad. And the waves are wicked!"

Swinging her long legs over the side of the jeep's rails, 'Ailana landed next to the boy with a soft thud. Jason gave her a once over before turning back to the people at the water's edge.

Black hair tied up in a ponytail, board shorts and bikini top in tow, she looked the embodiment of what Jason imagined the goddess Pele to look like - complete with the fiery personality to boot.

"I still don't get how these tourists find out these spots."

Jason nudged 'Ailana's side and pointed to a pale skinned man in dark jeans and a dark cardigan sitting a few feet away from the crowds. Jason was smirking.

"Pervert alert."

'Ailana saw the hooded shape and shook her head. "Weirdoes are what these people are, I swear."

After a few more minutes of watching what had once been their best surfing spot being run over by pale skinned 'ilipuakeas, they pulled their surfboards out of the jeep and ran towards the waves crashing onto shore.

"Last one in is an old grandmother!" 'Ailana screeched.

Jason kicked sand at her.

"First one in owes the other ice cream."

And they hit the waves laughing.

ok. yes. crappy crappy crappy intro. im gonna be using lots of hawaiian words and phrases - courtesy of the translate thing. in retrospect - it probably would have been easier for me to have made the main character fijian, and the holiday destination fiji but then people would have thought this was a self insert. which it isn't.
