My Half of the Necklace

I sat in the car outside the newly familiar apartment block and gazed at the purple and black bruises that sprinkled my arms. I held back another flood of tears as I put my hoodie back on, trying to be strong as some escaped. I opened my car door, letting my converse hit the ground. I closed the door slowly and carefully and yet it still hurt. Everything hurt. I climbed the stairs and stood infront of number 14B. The tears had stopped but the feeling still hung over me. I could feel the lump in my throat re-appearing once more as I took out my phone. 3am. I hesistated then knocked loudly. I waited as the seconds past. Then eventually the door opened revealing a sleepy looking Liam. You expected Niall right? At first I was going to go to Nialls but figured he wasn't the best person to speak to about this so Liam was the next best thing. His lips smiled at me. I just looked at the ground,
"Can I come in?" It was just loud enough for him to hear.
"Course!" I stepped into the apartment and looked around then back to the ground.
"So..erm.. not to sound rude, but why are you here at.." he paused to look at his watch, "3am?" he chuckled lightly and smiled. I couldn't help but feel a little safer inside. It was something about Liam's presence. I pulled down my head and lifted my head up towards him. His actions were almost immediate. He swiftly moved over, cupping my face in his hands, his eyes scanning every last inch or every cut and bruise, analyzing every detail and trying to take it all in. I could hear his steady breathing on my face. Finally he spoke,
"W-what happened NeeNaw?" As soon as the question was asked, I broke down. I just cried once more. he pulled me into him and wrapped his arms tightly around me, not caring that I didn't have the strength the embrace him back. He ushered me towards to sofa and sat closely next to me. I pulled my knees up to my chest and fiddled with a broken nail until he asked again. I breathed heavily.
"It's Joe.." His face still seemed a little puzzled as I took another deep breath, ready to tell him the entire story. That's what I did, I told him everything. How he'd asked me where I'd been to how he raped me. Liam stayed quiet and sympathetic throughout my explanation but as soon as I got to the end he flipped. He stood up, a red mist descending over his eyes as he flew towards the door.
"WAIT!" He stopped in his tracks, "Where are you going?" I asked, he turned to look at me.
"You expect me to sit here and do nothing after hearing what that jerk did to you?! He used you. He beat you. He raped you!" Each one of his words lead him towards my face then he turned once more and headed for the door. He took hold of the door knob, took a deep breath and muttered.
"I'm going to kill him." He opened his door and he was gone. I chased after him, using every last bit of energy I had left. I finally caught up with Liam on the second floor. I grabbed his arm. I had never seen him like this before.
"Liam. You can't do this" My voice was hushed, aware of the time.. the response I got on the other hand was not hushed.
"He had no right to do what he has done Nina! Look at you! You're hurt! I can see it! I don't want to see you like this!" Tears were sprinkling his eyes and they fell from mine.
"Liam... I... Lower your voice and calm down.. please... We need to figure out some things...I came to you because I trust you and thought Niall would freak out like this.. not you..please.. come back up?" I struggled to get my words out.
"You haven't told Niall?" His arms fell from my side as he took a step back. I shook my head and shivered as a cold breeze brushed past me. Liam snapped out of his little trance. and wrapped his arm around my shoulder guiding me back up the stairs, but stopped outside his apartment.
"Nina... why me?"
