Don't Tell Me You've Gone Astray

"Happy birthday, Gee." Frank tells me.

"Thanks."

Frank and I have been back together a little less than six months. I couldn't really ask for anything better.

"I have a surprise for you for your birthday."

"Is it a blowjob?" I ask bluntly. If it is, it would be a damn shame if he had to work all day

"Well, no." Frank replies, picking at his napkin.

We're at the same coffee shop we had met at before. Frank decided to buy me coffee as a part of my birthday gift. He refuses to tell me what the rest of it is.

"Come on, Frank. I need to know what it is, right now." I whine.

He sighs, knowing I'm going to beg until he gives in.

"Alright, fine. Let's go home."

When we arrive at my house, the door is already unlocked but, the lights are off.

"I can't believe I forgot to lock the fucking--" I start, cutting myself off.

To my surprise, my house is covered in streamers and balloons. A "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" banner is hanging across one of the walls.

"I invited some friends over to celebrate with us." Frank informs me.

So it's not a blowjob, I guess.

"Aw. Thanks." I say, hugging him around the waist.

"Happy birthday!"

I turn around to see Mikey, Alicia, and Adam walking out of the kitchen, carrying gifts.

"There's a cake on the table if you want some." Mikey tells me.

"No. Let's let him open presents now." Frank says, looking like an overly-excited child.

I open my gifts. I got a set of paintbrushes from Mikey, a new Spiderman comic from Adam, and a gift card from Alicia. I thank them all and set my gifts aside.

For the first time in years, I feel genuinely happy.
