The Ninth Ring

Chapter 1

For years I've slept, trapped in the deepest pits of hell, unable to move, speak or even shiver. That was my eternal punishment, to be incased in ice, locked away in the ninth ring of hell to pay for the sins i've committed. That is, until I made another deal.

I pushed through the crowds of people, making my way to the edge of the room. Masks covered the faces of the guests, and music filled the room. As the masquerade continued, my eyes locked onto my target. Brother Amonciato broke away from a group of guests and spoke to a member of his private guard. He turned and climbed the stairs that led to the second floor of his home, and entered his study, where a guard stood guard outside. I made my way up the stairs, and walked towards the study. A guard stepped forward and spoke out to me in Italian,
"I'm sorry sir, Brother Amonciato has retired for the night, please return to the party." I covered his mouth to stifle any sound, and quickly knocked him un cautious. He slumped down, leaning against the wall.
I opened the door, and stepped in.
"Brother Amonciato," I spoke out to him, "You have been charged with the sins of simonistery, avariciousness, and false prodigal identity. Your time is up." Amonciato turned around quickly, fear and shock obvious on his wrinkled face.
"How did you get in here?!" He yelled, "Guards! Guards!?!" There was no one to hear him. Not even his guests in the party below.
"You sell redemption to people who can nearly feed themselves. You pretend to be able to speak to God. You are a liar and a cheater. I'm here to deliver you into your final destination." I delivered my lines with exact uniformity. Just like always.
"Who are you!?" Amonciato yelled at me. "Why do you want me?! Ransom?!"
"I am Benjamin DeMilo. You must come with me." Amonciato reached under his desk and pulled out a pistol, which he aimed right at my head.
"I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH A DEAD MAN." He yelled, pulling the trigger. He lodged two bullets in my skull, and I smiled.
"Nice shot."

Brother Amonciato's body lay on the floor, limp, and lifeless. I looked into a mirror that the man had hanging in his office. The two holes were the bullets had entered were now nothing but slight scars.
"well thats one perk to being the devils dog" I thought to myself.
I removed my mask and set it on the large desk that was placed in the center of the room. I brushed the little bit of glitter off my hands and face and returned to the body of the godly sinner that just lost his life. I kneeled down and placed my hands on his face, and used the power that Lucifer had given me to pull the souls out of humans
. Unlike Amonciato's body, his soul was a sad, shriveled little thing, his soul wasn't very strong I noted. I stood and dragged his soul to the window. Even though humans can't see the souls like I can, they can still see blood and the body of someone they almost worshipped
. The window would provide an easier escape. I smashed the window with my elbow, and broke away the excess glass. Once the window was free of its pane, I jumped down to the street and walked into the safety of darkness.
It was about then you could hear the screaming of the masquerade partiers as they found his body.
I couldn't help but smile.
