Smoke and Fire
Prologue
"And you were like the ocean, perfect is your motion." -Paradise Fears
"Look at the sunset. Isn't it beautiful?", she whispers to him. It was a rare rainless day in London, and they sat at the edge of a pier looking out onto the sparkling water. The sun casts a fiery image across the sky and the water reflects the brilliant oranges and pinks. When Sam turns her head, however, it's her that Kennedy is looking at with an intense look on his face. "What?", she asks self-consciously, dipping her head down into her shoulders.
Tucking Sam's hair behind her ear and cupping her face in his hands, he whispers, "You're beautiful.", and pulls her in for a gentle kiss.
From a distance, they were the silhouette of a perfect couple, young and in love, with the future in front of them.
