Sweet Temptations

Surprises

It was October 26th, which meant Ava had been staying with Fernando for over a month. The week Olalla came home, she didn't suspect a thing. She only seemed to ask how everything went on at the house without her. Since then, Fernando had acted as if nothing happened between him and Ava which pissed her off. The fact he was playing around with her feelings and giving her mixed signals, hurt her a lot. She didn't quite understand it.

Every morning, Olalla wanted to take the kids out for breakfast and to the play center bringing Fernando with her. He asked Olalla if Ava could come along too but she'd told him no. It was family time only. Fernando objected; his wife silenced him and left him in defeat.

Ava woke up to an empty house again that morning and this time, she was quite fed up. She no longer felt wanted or appreciated. They were always gone before she was even up. Ava felt like an outcast to them. She made her way downstairs to the kitchen after getting dressed into a lime green top with a smiley face on, a printed Aztec poncho and black leggings. She helped herself to cereal and sat at the counter with a gloomy face. The house bell rang and Ava sighed. She didn't want to deal with any strangers. Especially today. Although, when she answered the door, she was surprised to see a tall brunette girl in a red and black printed flower dress standing there.

"Latoya?"

"The one and only," she replied.

-

The two best friends collided into a massive hug. For once, Ava was happy. She hadn't seen Latoya since the day she left Spain. It was nice to actually see her again and she couldn't quite believe it.
"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in France?"

"I was, but that's not important, what is important is the fact that you haven't been returning my calls? I mean what happened? Did you forget how to use a phone?" The brunette asked sarcastically. Ava rolled her eyes and sighed.

"No, sorry I just..I guess I had a lot on my mind." Ava replied making Latoya frown.

"Yeah, that happens a lot. So what's bothering you? Is it what we talked about last time?" Ava didn't know what to tell her friend. She had spoken to Latoya about her troubles and she was the first person to know about her small fling with Fernando. When Ava was about to tell her the male Spaniard was now ignoring her, Latoya was going to flip.

Ava nodded her head and she took a deep breath. "He's...different around me, like we hardly talk. When she's around, he avoids me and when she's not, we can't keep away from one another. We sometimes speak a few words, if that. Usually one or two smiles and that's it. I don't know-I just want to forget about it."

"Ugh, what an ass." Latoya shook her head in disgust. "Well, luckily I'm here," she grinned making Ava laugh and nod her head.

"Si, I'm glad you are."

-

Ava led Latoya up to her room and the girl was left shocked. She couldn't believe how big her room actually was. She was even more shocked Ava had a balcony. Latoya placed her suitcase down and sat on Ava's bed. She bounced slowly up and down. 'Such a child' Ava thought before sniggering to herself.

"So how long are you staying for?" Ava questioned.

"Permanently."

"Aw that's fine you can use one of the guest roo- wait what?" Ava spun around on her heel and faced the brunette who was biting her lip looking back at her. "Permanently? But what about Spain? What happened to studying in France?" Latoya looked down in sorrow and picked at the coloured paint on her nails.

"My father died." The blonde was left stunned. She moved over and sat next to her friend. "My mother couldn't bare it, so she left. She went to stay with my Aunt Clarissa in Santiago. He left everything for me A, I mean- the money, house, it's almost too much." Ava held Latoya's hand and offered her some comfort.

"I'm sorry Tori."

"The memories back home, they aren't the same any more. I couldn't concentrate on my studies so I dropped out and came here instead. Flori gave me Fernando's address and now here I am." Ava gently hugged Latoya and offered her a sincere smile.

"You can stay here, I'm sure Olalla would understa-"

"Oh! That's okay I bought my own place." Latoya reassured. Ava pulled away and looked to her friend. Her eyebrows knitted together.

"Really? Are you sure that's a good idea? London's a pretty big place and I don't want anything happening to you. I just don't like the idea of you living on your own Loya." Ava bit her lip.

"I know. That's why I want you to move in with me," she suggested, grinning as Ava's eyes widened.

Just as Ava was about to answer back, the front door opened and multiple shrieks erupted the building. Olalla's yelling also came from downstairs signalling they were back from wherever they'd been. Footsteps walked up the stairs and were now coming closer towards Ava's room. Before Latoya even had a chance to hide, Fernando shot straight through Ava's bedroom door. Both of the girls shot up and stood still, their eyes wide in alarm as they watched the Spaniard who was staring back at them quite curiously.
