Their casual summer fling turned into something so much more when Sam made a surprise return to help the New Directions win Sectionals. The number one thing on Sam's mind was to win Mercedes back.
It took weeks, but the spark between them refused to fade and Mercedes was forced to realize that she didn't love Shane like she did Sam. But, the consequence of this also ended the relationship between Sam and Mercedes for a time.
Sam didn’t stop fighting. He never gave up on her or her aspirations. He helped Mercedes realize her dreams and personally made sure their last few weeks together were memorable.
Prom, Nationals, graduation. Everything was over. Summer was coming to a close and it was time for Sam and Mercedes to say goodbye. Sam would be staying in Lima to finish out his senior year and Mercedes was flying out to California for her record deal. Nothing was going to be the same.
But, Sam still wasn't done fighting for the girl he loved.
