Letters to Anamarie

Pecemaker

December 1814

Dear Anamarie,

So much time has passed that I don't even know myself now.
I've seen so many fights, and dead bodies, I just long to see something normal here for once.
You. I want to see you
I lost track of the days, but I think it's almost Christmas. I wish I could be there, with you and your family--exchanging gifts and welcoming hugs. I miss your family and all the times we spent.

Remember our wedding day? It was so beautiful--you looked so beautiful.
I was in my service uniform and happy to officially be yours.
Your little sister was the flower girl, and she looked very pretty--your whole family did.
When we exchanged our vows I knew something inside me had changed--something good.

But now I'm here, trying to make peace with the world, so I can come home and see you--you.
I miss you, and waking up to your beautiful smile every morning makes my heart ache.
I love you, and hope that you will still wait for me in time, when I return home.
I hope that you'll still be there, my dear, Anamarie
