Invisible

Wishes

It was after school, and Rebecca was still my guide.

While we had some of the same classes, it seemed impossible for Rebecca to show me where my class was, and then practically run to the other side of the building, and I felt bad.

I told her at lunch that I could make do without her, but Rebecca refused to step down from being my guide.

"What are your plans for after school?" Rebecca asked.

"Probably help my mom unpack some boxes." I said.

Even if we did just move into our house recently, there were still some unpacking to do.

Rebecca nodded.

"Oh..I was just wondering if you wanted to come over."

While it would be nice, I knew I couldn't:

After what had happened today, I don't think Rebecca's friends would appericate me being at Rebecca's house.

"Is it because of what my friends did?" Rebecca asked, and I shook my head.

"No, of course not." I ressured her.

"Well, if you change your mind, just let me know: I'll tell my friends to be a bit nicer to you."

Like that'll happen:

The minute Rebecca turns her back, her friends will be mean to me.

I gave her a small smile.

"Okay. Sounds great!"

A car horn honked, and Rebecca looked up to see a car heading towards us.

"My mom is here. I'll see you later, Tabby!"

I watched her get into the car, and when she left, I headed for home as well.

When I got home, my mom was waiting for me.

She saw the pants that I got from Nurse Leslie, and she frowned.

"Tabitha, where are your pants?" she asked.

I shook my head.

"Some girls decided to play a mean prank on me that involved me getting paint on my pants. But, a girl I know has them, so she'll give them to me tomorrow."

My mom's facial expression changed.

"Oh, Tabby, I'm sorry.."

I brushed her off.

"I'm going to the park."

I turned around, and I headed to the park.

As I got there, there were people milling around, but I headed straight to the founation.

You may think this is silly, but I make wishes.

Whenever something bad happened, I make a wish.

For example:

When my parents got a divorce, I made a wish, and I wished for them to get back together.

Obviously, my wish never came true, but I still like to make wishes because it's a way for me to vent.

I fished a quarter out of my pocket, and I closed my eyes.

I wish I had friends.

I took a deep breath, and just as I was about to let go of the quarter, I felt something slam into me.

"Oh my gosh, I'm sorry! Are you okay?"

I opened my eyes to see a boy looming over me.

He looked about my age, and had the prettiest eyes I had ever seen:

They almost seemed to be the color of amber.

"Um.." I said, and the boy smiled at me.

"Here: let me help you up."

I let him help me up to my feet, and he looked at me.

"I was trying to catch Baylor: he's the dog my girlfriend and I got together. She couldn't take him today, so I have him."

He gave me a sheepish smile.

"He thought you were my girlfriend: I think he loves her way more than I do."

Oh my god, that's adorable! I thought.

I smiled back at him, and I looked at Baylor.

Baylor was sitting at the boy's feet, and he looked up at me.

Baylor was a mix of tan and black, and had blue eyes, which was strange.

The boy saw me looking at him.

"He's part Husky. That explains the blue eyes." he replied.

I nodded.

"My name is Tabitha. But, most people call me Tabby. You know, like the cat." I said, and the boy grinned.

"That's cute..my name is Jus..Jason." Jason stated, and I smiled.

"Nice to meet you, Jason." I said, and we shook hands.

"Nice to meet you too..so, what were you doing before we interupted you?" Jason asked.

I blushed.

No one really knows that I make wishes.

If anyone found out. they'd think I'm crazy.

"Oh...you know...making wishes." I said, and Jason smiled.

"That's cool: my little brother and sister like to make wishes too."

Of course:

When Jason's siblings make a wish, it's cute.

When I do it, it's just plain creepy.

"That's cute." I said, and Jason was digging around his pocket.

I was wondering what he was doing, until I saw him pulling out a quarter.

"Since Baylor and I made you lose your quarter, you can have this one: my mom wouldn't mind. She has a lot of them laying around." Jason said, and I looked at him.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

I'm sure he meant well, but I barely knew him.

Jason nodded as he handed me the quarter.

"Yeah, take it."

I bit my lower lip, and I turned to face the founation again.

Changing my wish, I thought:

I wish something exciting would happen to me.

When I opened my eyes, I found out that Jason wasn't with me.

Instead, I saw him running away from the park, with Baylor at his heels.

Weird...I thought.

But, I was pretty sure this wasn't the last time I was going to see Jason.
