Blossoming Fates

Catching Up

I stood by the glass door at the entrance of the restaurant before spotting Zack in a booth near the huge window. I smiled slightly waving at him before pulling my purse higher onto my shoulder and began walking forwards to greet him. He looked amazing. He was wearing a grey beanie covering his raven black hair and was wearing a button up shirt with the sleeves cuffed an inch or so past his elbows. His jeans were most likely torn somewhere which would give him the rugged appeal that excited me easily. He darted his tongue against his bottom lip allowing his eyes to roam her body. She smiled sweetly again and sat across from the famous musician not noticing the light stares inside the diner. Emilee was simply too smitten with Zach to notice the people whispering in hushed tones about the musician and herself meeting.

“How was dinner with your mom?” He asks starting an easy conversation as if the two had known each other longer than a week.

“Great,” I say picking up the menu and scanning over the choices “She and me just caught up.”

“That’s always fun.” He says itching with nerves.

There was something about Emilee that made Zacky nervous unlike before. It was like he was back in high school going out with the girl of his dreams and didn’t know how to form a proper sentence. He was off his game and both he and Emilee knew it. She enjoyed that he wasn’t trying to sweep her off her feet with smooth words.

“What about you, what did you do before meeting me here?” I ask lightly setting the menu down already knowing what I wanted to eat.

“Hung out with some of my friends and did a little bit of work.” He admitted keeping away the fact that he was in the studio working on a new album with his other band mates.

“Working is always just so much fun.” She says sarcastically letting out a small laugh “What do you do?”

Zack debates whether telling her the full truth while her blue green eyes locks with his emerald green ones. He informs her he owns a local graphic design studio. He smiles before flicking his piercing from inside his mouth with his tongue as he finally decided what he wanted to eat. After a while longer of talking he realizes that Emilee isn’t a typical girl. There was something different about her. She was honest, but polite. They had disagreed about certain facts and she was able to defend her point. He smiled to himself knowing the guys would get a hoot out of her. Emilee laughed and joked around with Zacky like they had been friends forever. She had been feeling really nauseous but was determined to ignore it. She didn’t want to ruin the good moments they were having.

Zack smiled and couldn’t help but think about just how beautiful Emilee was. He was awestruck by her when they met at Starbucks, but after getting to know her better he knew she was someone worth having around. Yet, for some reason, he was hesitant at telling her just who he was. Emilee smiled widely as Zack told her about a time where he took his niece and nephew out to a ball game. She sucked down some more of her banana milkshake and Zack took another large bite of his burger.

“Gavin was really cute and I totally meant it about bringing him to the museum.” Emilee said seriously while feeling the hot blush creep onto her face

“Your blushing is very cute.” Zack says bluntly causing her blush to deepen and him to chuckle.

She enjoyed this time with Zacky more so than she had originally planned for. She knew he was something else. She couldn’t help but to allow her curiosity grow about this stranger. He was so caring which was very odd due to his brute exterior that gave off the ideas that he was really a bad guy. I watched hesitantly as his emerald eyes flickered along my own face. He smiled a sort of lopsided smile and I couldn’t prevent my own giggled forming. I was having a genuinely good time and didn’t want it to end. I had only hoped he felt the same way too.

“We need to hang out again.” Zacky said after he asked for the bill

I nodded my head as I suck down the last of my milkshake, “I would like to do that, maybe we could go to the pier or have a movie night.” I simply suggested and his face lit up as if it were on fire.

He regained his composure before giving me a swift nod, “Zacky you know I can pay for my own meal. This wasn’t a date or anything.” I whisper out not wanting to remember this was truly nothing special

“It was a date between friends, so I am paying. You can pay next time if it really matters.” He comments before standing from the booth and helping Emilee up out of her seat.

They headed towards the door when my nerves began to eat at my confidence and dizziness set into place. I grabbed onto the railing as the nauseous feeling went into overdrive. I could hear Zacky asking if I was alright, but I was more focused on retaining my late snack without grossing out Zack. I quickly nodded my head before I could speak. Once I did I only informed him of it being my cold I was talking about earlier. I looked up to meet his eyes looking deeply concerned at my state of health. He helped me to my car as if I were feeble. It took a toll on my independence but I ignored the nagging feeling lodged inside my head to enjoy the seconds I was close to Zack. I felt the heat radiating off of him warming my chilled skin. His breath tickled my throat as he shifted his arm to go around my waist and hoist me up a bit in order to keep me steady. He asks me if I’ll be okay in a gentle tone as he brushed some fallen hair away from my eyes as I rested my head back against the head rest in my car.

“Yes Zack, I’ll be okay. I’ll call you when I get home just to prove that I’ll be okay.” I send a warm smile his way to reassure him.

He’s hesitant at first but as moments pass by I began to feel better just like I had previously felt before the random dizzy spell. He brings me into his arms for a hug. It gives away that there is something blossoming between Zack and me. I was content with being friends however, because in secrecy that was the main thing I just needed from people.

“I promise to call the second I get home.” I tell him before he smiles and says goodbye.

Emilee drives away from the small diner leaving Zack to walk back to his car and begin to question his feelings for the beautiful brunette. He was determined to see her more often.
