The Great Escape

Day 1: End

“Holly”

When we were done eating, a man in a white coat came over to greet us, “I’ll be showing you girls to your rooms.”

He handed us each a journal with our according names, “These journals are for you girls to keep tabs on your daily feelings and any adaptations you make throughout the day. You will be required to write in it once a day, daily. We’ll give you girls a half hour after dinner to do your writing, and afterward it will be time for your showers.”

I tried to read his mind, but the only thing going through was a schedule. He was running late for something, which explained why he was rushing through the details for us while we walk quickly through the hallways.

He led us passed multiple doors, and each were numbered. “You will each have your own room, and you will have free access to others until 10 PM, then you must be in your rooms. Lights are out at 10:30 PM. You may make request of what you’re wanting through a slot that will being at the end of each wing. As long as it’s reasonable enough, we may get the item you wish for, just be sure to have your room number on the slip so we know who to give it to.

He stopped whenever we got to the doors 0001, 0002, and 0003. “These rooms are yours, each have your ID numbers on it,” He unlocked the doors, and ushered us inside, “Be sure to write into your journals. A woman will be here to pick you up for your showers.”

He left quickly, leaving each of us speechless. “I’ve never heard a guy talk so much,” Izzy said, her voice ranging out of her wide open door.

“For reals,” I said, looking at the journal. “I suppose we better do what we’re told.”

I walked over to the white sheeted bed and sat down, and suddenly, I felt tired. I opened the journal, which had a pen inside. I took it, and started to write the date- “Hey, what is the date today?” I asked.

“Who knows?” Bailee said, “I’m just putting ‘Day 1’.”

“Good idea,” Izzy replied.

I did the same, and so I started to write. I started by explaining the experience I had with my mind reading powers. I didn’t know if I was supposed to be specific, but I found myself writing a whole page about what I was feeling today, and I felt it was pretty direct. It only took fifteen minutes for all of us to get done, and we all crowded into my room.

“You know,’ Bailee said, “I never noticed another person aside from the white coats today. Do you think we’re the only one’s here?”

Izzy shrugged, “Maybe we’re the first ones here. I don’t know.”

I looked around the room, “I heard a guard at the end of the hall.”

I could hear his thoughts, wondering when his shift would end, and why he had to watch over three young girls. “I want a shower,” Izzy said, “I’m all sweaty and sticky now.”

“I wonder how long we have to stay here.” Bailee said, “I mean, won’t we miss our parents?”

I shrugged, “Maybe…”

“Maybe they’ll visit us!” Izzy said, “I wouldn’t mind packing a punch on Leroy.”

We laughed, Leroy was Izzy’s older brother and they were always trying to fight to see who’s the strongest. We knew this would be impossible, we were kidnapped, and our parents didn’t know where we were.

But it didn’t hurt to hope.
