Half Dead

New, exciting and different

Honestly, I feel that it's extremely hard to rationalize the fact that someone likes you. That someone actually enjoys looking at you. That someone thinks about you in such a positive way, than just your parents.

For me, it makes me nauseous. I'm not the best looking person in the world and I'm not funny and I'm not intelligent. Sill, Frank and Cheri both think about me in some way.

Cheri came and saw me on my last day in the hospital. That's why I bring her up.

She smiles at me, tucking a stray piece of red hair behind her ear. Her cheeks are bright, she's holding a balloon with a smiley face with a cartoon bandaid on it's face, saying get well soon. She waves at me, Frank is sitting on the edge of my bed looking at her, "Hey."

"Hi." Cheri waves to him, then she looks at me, "You look better, Violet."

I give her a nod. I'm nervous about her being her. There are a lot of things I want to ask her.

"I'm sorry about not coming soon," she ties the balloon to the get well basket Frank's mother set with him; "My parents were kinda skeptical about it."

I give her a questionable glance.

"They didn't think you'd want to see me." she answers.

Frank laughs, "Vi is all better."

I roll my eyes at him, Cheri giggles, "I see. Anyway, they're waiting for me, I told them I'd be quick."

I grab the iPad and begin to write quickly; Why did you follow me that day?

Cheri reads it, her cheeks turn a scarlet color, "Oh... Well, I wanted to make sure you were okay."

Thank you, I don't remember any of it though

"I made you throw up, to make sure the pills wouldn't do any damage. You're welcome."

What happened to Gloria and Raven?

"They got expelled." Cheri grins, "I'm so happy!"

I smiled; Thank god

"Will you be coming back?" Cheri gives me a hopeful look.

I shrug; I don't know yet

"Can we hang out some time?"

Frank grins, "Hell yeah! We can all hang out and do some fun shit together."

If I could laugh I would. Frank and Cheri both let out small laughs.

"For sure." Cheri smiles, "I gotta go now, but I'll stop by and see you again, Violet."

I nod and wave as she leaves. Frank looks over at me, "I'm really glad to see you smiling."

I shake my head at his words. They flatter me and I'm still frightened about letting Frank in. He's so kind, it's weird aside from being new and different.

Dr. Wilbur did a house call, his first ever; our first ever. I sit on the couch with my parents while Dr. Wilbur talks about new medication. He says that I should start feeling better by next week.

I do feel better already. I guess it's because of Frank and Cheri. Again, the nervousness fills my gut.

"Violet is doing better already." My dad says, "Even without the pills, she has friends."

Dr. Wilbur looks surprised, "Friends?" the word is foreign between us.

Yes, Dr. Wilbur, crazy Violet Graber has friends.

"Frank Iero, he's very sweet to her," my mom continues, "He comes and sees her every day."

Dr. Wilbur smiles, I see his gap, "That's wonderful."

"She met him a month ago, after school; they're new friends."

My heart starts to pound; I'm nervous. Again, it hits me hard. I have friends. It's new, exciting and scary. I never felt this way before.

"How do you like it, Violet?" Dr. Wilbur directs to me.

I write on the iPad; Its new and exciting; I tell him my thoughts.

"Is it a nice feeling?"

I nod; it's very nice.

My return to school was nerve wrecking. I was nervous about not seeing Gloria or Raven. I was nervous about new bullies. New bullies who hid in the corners of the school. New bullies who were waiting to attack.

My mom puts her hand on my shoulder, "Will you be okay?"

I nod shortly.

"You know that me and your dad have some meetings this afternoon, so Frank will walk you home." my mom petted my short hair.

I nod again.

She leans over and kisses my cheek, "I love you, have a good day."

I lick my lips and get out. I feel her eyes on me as I walk up the steps; kids look over at me and stare. Their eyes lingering and following me like my mom's until I get on the other side of the corridors. I let out a small breath and head to my first period.

"Hey Violet," Cheri's voice stops me, "Good to see you back."

I nod, letting her give me a side hug. She and I walked down the hall to our respective classrooms, waving to one another. She and I are suppose to have lunch together and I was feeling that nervousness.

I have never had lunch inside the cafeteria before. I don't even know where it is, honestly. I guess I would need to rely on Cheri for that.
