So Fragile Yet So Devious
I'll Miss You
“Be right there.” He yelled towards the sound of the knocking at his door. He swung it open and saw her on his doorstep. “Hey Dolly.” A relaxed smile brushing across his face. “What’d I do to deserve this visit?”
She pushed past him and into his house. Something he’d grown used to since… hell, he had a habit of doing it himself. That must’ve been where she’d gotten it.
“I got some pictures back from prom.” She explained. “I wanted to bring you one before you left. And, I just wanted to see you.”
He took the picture from her hands and looked at it with a feeling of happiness. “Let me see if I have something to put this in.” She followed him as he rummaged through some cabinets. She saw his face fall a little bit as he produced a framed picture of Scarlett and himself from their wedding day. He just looked at it a second before he loosened the back of the frame sliding the old picture out and placing the one she’d just given him in its place and setting it up on the mantle.
“Andddddddd I got pocket sizes.” She said pulling a goofy face. “So, you can put it in your wallet and show all your good looking musician friends.” She raised her eyebrows.
“Oh, I’ll put it in my wallet….but those are assholes aren’t seeing it.” He laughed wickedly.
“So, what time do you have to head out?”
“Jim’s coming by around 6 and we’re gonna head to the airport.”
“You don’t look too excited.” She observed.
“I’m just tired.” He told her in an assuring tone. “But, I guess these past couple weeks have been a good break.”
“I wish I could go with you…” she said hopefully. “Be a lot more fun than going to college.”
He put an arm around her and they leaned back on his couch. “I’m gonna send you some tickets and stuff. Bring you out for some shows.”
“Really?”
“Yep. I don’t think we need to be going whole tours and shit without seeing each other. It’s too long.” He confessed. He didn’t know how it happened but she was his closest friend. He trusted her more than any other person in his life.
She sat there with him watching tv for a few hours until Jim got there. Then, she watched him as he gathered up his luggage to leave.
Jim looked on curiously as the two said their goodbyes.
“I’m gonna miss you.” He smiled weakly.
“Me too.” She added. He hugged her as tight as he thought he could.
“I’ll call.” He promised. She nodded to him and he turned to leave.
