Last but Not Least

Close the distance.

"So you like her?" Garrett heard which startling him from his thoughts. He quickly glanced over at Trey who stood beside him with a smirk.

"Yeah..." Garrett answered honestly. There was no lying to his brother. He knew he would be able to tell.

"And so what does that mean?"

"It means nothing. We're friends. She's staying the night with me tonight."

Trey nodded with a grin, "Oh, really?"

"It isn't like that." He grumbled defensively.

"I know it isn't because you're a pansy."

Garrett rolled his eyes, "No. I'm just a gentleman. Maybe if you were you wouldn't be in a shitty relationship because you had a one night stand."

Trey rolled his eyes, "Yeah, but then I wouldn't have Lilly."

"Right and then I'd hate you more than I normally would." Garrett joked and Trey shoved him lightly.

"Although she loves me more." Garrett added and Trey laughed, "Ha! Whatever. Hey Lilly bear, want to go look at the water again?"

Lilly eagerly moved from Reagan to Trey and Trey stuck his tongue out at Garrett who just laughed as he watched Trey carry her out.

"Awe. I love her." Reagan said from the floor and he smiled, "Yeah, hard not to. Even John who swears he'll never have kids likes her."

He pulled her from the floor, "Let's go get some food."

The pair ended up at table outside with Garrett's mom and John's brothers randomly which wasn't so bad. She liked being here. It felt like home although it was miles from hers.

"Be back." She said to Garrett as she grabbed up her cup and sped inside to refill it only to run straight into John.

"Sorry." She whispered and he sighed, "Rea, I'm sorry ok? I was just looking out for you and yeah maybe I took it too far but you and Tim together is just an absurd idea. But yeah, I'm sorry...really." He said sincerely and she nodded, "It's ok."

"Still friends?"

She nodded a yes.

"Going to talk to me again?"

"Yeah..." She answered with a smile.

He grinned and pulled her in for a hug, "P.S Garrett's family loves you. Not saying that should mean anything, but you know..."

"Ah yes and your family?" She asked with a smirk.

"Oh well, my brothers think you're hot if you're wondering why they are sitting at the table with you."

She let out a laugh and he threw his arm around her shoulders, "Lets go back out."

"I need a drink though."

"Ah, that is what Garrett is for. Watch." John mused and she rolled her eyes as they walked back outside.

"That was quick." Garrett said as she sat beside him.

"Oh yeah. John made me come back out...disregarding my thirst." She said as John pulled up a chair, "Did not."

Garrett rolled his eyes, "I'll get you something. I got to run in anyways."

John smirked as he leaned back into his chair.

"No it's ok. Really." She responded and Garrett grabbed her red plastic cup, "It's not a big deal."

She thanked him as he walked away and John chuckled, "Yep. He likes you." Shane stated who was John's younger brother.

"Oh yeah. He does." Trey leaned over his mom's shoulder who swatted at the boy. Reagan's cheeks were now bright red.

"Leave her alone and shut up before your brother hears you." Deana stated glaring at Trey who shrugged before walking after Lilly.

John snickered beside her and Garrett finally reappeared sitting her drink in front of her.

"Thank you."

He nodded sitting back in his seat sipping on his own drink. Before Reagan realized it, time passed quickly and the sun was almost completely gone from the sky. The wind was picking up a bit causing her to shiver as she watched Trey kiss Lilly's forehead who slept in his arms. A smile hit her lips at the sweet sight and she crossed her arms for warmth.

"Here." She heard and looked up as Garrett placed his blue jean jacket over her shoulders.

"Oh thank you."

He nodded with a grin, "Ready to go?"

"It's up to you. You're driving."

"Right, well I am pretty exhausted so yeah, but if you're not then we can stay."

She grinned and stood up, sliding her arms into his jacket, "No. We can go."

He nodded grabbing her hand gently as he pulled her into the house. The pair said goodbye to everyone and Garrett pulled her to his car.

"Did you have fun?" He asked as they drove to the house he shared with his family.

"Yeah. I did. Kind of felt like home actually." She said softly as she looked out the window. If anything being here made her homesick more than she thought it would.

"Your brothers seemed to have a good time."

She chuckled, "Yeah. Surprisingly even Ross."

"He's not that bad really."

"Says the guy he likes."

He laughed as they pulled up at what she assumed was where he lived. She followed him quietly to the door and he fiddled with his keys before unlocking the dark home. He grabbed her hand once more pulling her in and walking to where he knew the light switch was on the wall. Once the bright light lit up the space she squinted allowing him to led her wherever. She fumbled up the stairs and he opened another door which she assumed was his room simply from how it smelled.

"Yeah, I should have thought this through..." He stated switching on the light and she laughed, "Why?"

"I'm super nerdy..." He grumbled rubbing his neck nervously. Her eyes scanned the room. Comics laid around along with piles of movies and some star wars action figures causing her to chuckle, "I already knew that."

"Yeah, but still..."

She smiled and fell onto his bed, "If you weren't I wouldn't like you."

He chuckled, "Oh is that so?"

"Yeah."

He grinned before laying beside her, his shoulder touching hers.

"My family likes you." He said softly as he shut his eyes, feeling how tired he truly was.

"I like them."

He grinned trying not to make it obvious as he slowly slid his fingers through hers.

"I like you too." He boldly decided to say even if it was at a whisper.

"I like you back."

He chuckled, "Good."

"I'm too exhausted to even move." He added and she laughed sitting up. His eyes opened and she smiled, "Probably don't want to sleep in shoes."

"Right." He mumbled kicking them off with ease. She giggled, "Or do that."

He smiled, "Lay down silly."

She climbed from the bed and he watched her as she took off her shoes and turned the light off. He felt the bed move sending his heart ino a faster pace knowing she would be sleeping beside him again. He really didn't know how to act.

"I do feel safer here." She finally spoke causing him to laugh in relief.

"Glad I don't come off as someone who would try to molest you."

"Me too now that we are in a bed with the lights out." She whispered and he couldn't help but laugh, "You're crazy."

"Thanks. I think..."

He chuckled, "Not a bad thing. I promise."

"You're nerdy, I'm crazy. Guess it evens out."

"Yeah. I believe you're right." He whispered running his thumb repeatedly over her hand which was still attached to his.

"Can we sleep?" She asked pressing her face into his shoulder.

"Yeah..." He managed to get out. He moved his free arm around her waist as he turned a bit on his side. He liked sleeping close to her.

"Going to sleep in my jacket?" He asked. His hand coming in contact with it instead of the soft shirt she had on.

"Mmhm. Cold." She mumbled. He kissed her forehead tightening his grasp on her, "Sweet dreams." He whispered before the pair fell asleep.

Garrett woke up the next morning to giggling and he scrunched his eyes together before forcing them open. A grin hit his lips once he saw Reagan sitting on the bed with Lilly reading her a book.

He watched her intently as she talked to Lilly softly. The way she made him feel, he didn't understand and yet it was amazing.

"I'm gonna go get another." Lilly said before climbing off the bed. Reagan chuckled and Garrett decided to speak, "She likes you."

Reagan looked over at the boy and a smile hit her lips, "Well I like her too."

He sat up messing with his hair, "What time is it?"

"9:30."

"What times our show?"

"6."

He nodded as she leaned against the wall the bed was up against.

"Did she wake you?"

"Yeah surprised you didn't wake up because your mom came chasing after her." She said chuckling.

"Oh, must have been exhausted."

"That and because you got to sleep in your own bed."

"True."

Before he could speak his mom stepped into the room, "Oh finally up? Well I made breakfast if you two want to come down."

"Thanks." Reagan said flashing a smile as Garrett got off the bed.

He grabbed her arm and pulled her from the bed with a smile, "What did you do with my jacket?"

"Hung it up like a normal person."

He rolled his eyes as he slid his hand in hers, leading her out of his room and to the kitchen.

"Lilly bear!" Garrett said holding his arms out and the toddler stopped what she was doing to look at him.

"Sorry. Reagan's reading." She said holding out another book for Reagan causing the girl to laugh.

Garrett's mouth fell open and Reagan elbowed him, "Oh yeah. Jealous?"

He frowned at Lilly, "But what about me?"

"In a minute."

Reagan giggled some more and Garrett crossed his arms.

"Awe don't be sad Gar bear." Reagan stated wrapping her arms around him from the side causing him to shiver. She kissed his cheek softly and a grin hit his lips. He couldn't help it.

"Can we eat before you steal my niece?"

She nodded and he lead her to the kitchen where his mom and Trey were.

"Your child likes Reagan more than me already." Garrett said and Trey laughed, "Garrett, she's 3. She likes everyone."

He shrugged and Trey chuckled, "Or everyone likes Reagan and she can't help that."

"Probably that." Reagan joked causing their mom to laugh as she handed her a plate of pancakes. Reagan thanked her and sat at the table beside Trey.

"Yeah probably." Garrett responded giving her a wink as he sat beside the girl.

"Lilly come eat." Trey said quickly leaving the kitchen. Garrett leaned over and placed a kiss Reagan's jaw. He liked this time spent her. Even if it did make him fall even more for her.

"What was that for?" She asked trying to hide her blushing cheeks.

He shrugged as he focused on cutting into a pancake with his fork.

The room grew quiet before Lilly and Trey arrived, of course. Garrett couldn't help but watch Reagan as she laughed and talked with her family like she had known them for years. For some reason it hit him in that moment that she wouldn't be coming back here with him again. A frown hit his lips as he stared at his plate. He hadn't really thought about that happening, but none the less it would be...and what would he do then?

A bit of a cute, filler sort of chapter. Don't worry, next chapter will make up for it. ;)
