Chapter 23: Sydney
Jude let me go early, after I told him about Kell. He'd gotten bored, I guess, and decided to talk to me. He asked about my plans for later, and then asked about Kell when I told him I had a date.
More exactly, he scrunched his face up when I told him his name. "Kell? Kell is... he's practical. He's reliable... hardworking. He seems overly cautious, but...he'll surprise you with his sense of adventure. He seems to value discipline, but he actually hates structure."
The entire time Jude told me about Kell, he had his face scrunched up weird like he was trying to remember something, and he was tapping his fingers. It was slightly disconcerting.
"Uh, do you know Kell?"
His face went back to normal. He smiled. "No, I've never met anyone named Kell. Strange name."
"Then how do you know so much about him?"
"About who?"
I wanted to slap myself upside the head. Fortunately, Jude came to his senses enough to remember that I had a date. He kicked me out, telling me to go home, take a shower, and get a haircut. Which is funny, coming from an old guy who could be Rapunzel's long-lost brother.
