I Wish

Prologue

I stared out over the gray waves as they churned under a cloudy sky. The icy wind whipped my long blonde hair into my face, but I didn’t bother pushing it away. The laughter of good friends, the thick blanket I was curled up in, and the crackling bonfire warmed up the chilly Irish beach we sat on.

There were six of us, including myself. Our odd group consisted of Kieron (my cousin), Adelaide (my best friend), Seamus, Reagan, and Niall. It was the first weekend of Niall’s measly three months he’d be spending back in Ireland. Then he’d rush back to London to work on his fancy album with his fancy band. We’d already teased him about his trendy new clothes and the fans that’d stop him in the street to take pictures, but really we were all so proud of our successful friend… Even if the cost of that success was him moving to England and rarely having time to visit.

“Fionnabhair?” My head snapped to look at Ade who was giggling at me. “Oh, Finna! Always got your mind out the door!” She teased me. One of the reasons I loved Ade so much was that she was always smiling and laughing. Really I loved all my friends for that reason. I was the one who always seemed to have my head in the clouds.

It was Adelaide that decided one day to take the loner girl in under her wing. She’s never told me why, but before I met these five people, I’d never really had a friend before. I loved the way she affectionately threw her arm around me and pulled me into her side, her cascading brown waves flying into my face due to the wind, but I just teasingly brushed them away. I’d opened up so much since meeting Ade and the boys.

“So Finna,” Ade whispered in my ear, quiet so the boys wouldn’t hear the words she wished to share with only me. “What were you thinking about?” The smirk that was set into her pretty face was unmistakable and I began to regret for the millionth time telling her my little secret. I was lucky she hadn’t brought it up yet with Niall being in town and everything.

“Hush, Adelaide, it’s nothing!” I hissed, tucking the blanket closer to my body, subconsciously. Her grin widened. I was frustrated because I actually wasn’t even thinking too much about him.

I glanced quickly at the adorable little blonde situated on the other side of the bonfire. I loved the way the amber flames danced in his blue eyes. My heart fluttered when his smiling gaze flickered on me for a second as he discussed some hilarious topic with his best friend and my cousin, Kieron. His grin widened for a brief moment as our eyes connected, but then his attention was elsewhere and I was left catching my shaky breath.

Adelaide just had to bring him up.

Who was I kidding, the sooner Niall left for England the better.

This could be a long couple of months with my old friend.

Keep or Kill? It's kind of a weird start, but I wrote this at like 3 in the morning. The first real chapter should be up today at some point.

Note: I reposted this because I originally had problems with the layout and you couldn't read it. What does everyone else think about the new layout maker? I was severely confused, personally.
