Teach Your Heart To Talk

You Stole Me

Chapter 14

Brendon’s POV

Ryan is already staring at me when I wake up, his wide honey eyes questioning.
“What happened?” he whispers.
I kiss him quickly before explaining.
“You got an attack at the club.”
“Oh”
“Nothing too bad happened.”
“What did happen?”
“You locked yourself in one of the toilet stalls.”
He nods and then frowns.
“How did you get me out of there?”
I reach out to trace my fingers along his jaw while thinking.
I told him I loved him. That’s how.
But how could I tell him that now?
“I- … uhm … I talked to you.” I stutter and let my hand move down his arm.
“What? How did that work?”
I wish he would just remember. This is so hard to say.
“You really can’t … remember?” I ask and he shakes his head slowly as if he’s not sure of it.
“I’m sorry.” He whispers and looks down.
“It’s okay.”
“Tell me?”
I just smile sadly and get up. Ryan keeps watching me with big eyes.
“Brendon?” he asks but I don’t turn to look at him.
Suddenly I start to get angry.
It wasn’t easy for me to say those three words and he just … forgets I ever mentioned them.
“Is something wrong?” I hear Ryan’s scared voice behind me.
I turn around and stare him down.
“Just try to remember, okay?”
He swallows and stares at the bedclothes for a few minutes before he raises his gaze again and shakes his head.
“I’m sorry. Can’t you just … tell me?”
I bite my lip and look down, remaining silent.
“Alright then” he mumbles and gets up to leave the room.
“Where are you going?”
“Spencer is coming back today. I’ll visit him.”
“Oh okay”
I sit down on the bed and listen as the shower starts to run. Ryan doesn’t look at me when he walks in to get some clothes. Ten minutes later I hear the front door slam shut, making me flinch.
With a loud sigh I get up and get down to the kitchen.
“Good morning, honey.” My mother greets and I just raise an eyebrow.
“Why are you so happy?” I ask as I sit down.
She turns to face me and smiles.
“Oh, Ryan just left. That has to be it.” I mumble, rolling my eyes and resting my chin in my palm.
“It’s not just that. I have a surprise for you.”
“Oh great. You know I love your surprises.”
She has to physically feel the sarcasm.
“Don’t be like this. You will like it.”
“Whatever” I mumble and get up. “I’m in my room.”
“Okay, sweetheart”
I don’t want to know what her surprise is.

Ryan’s POV

I didn’t even knock when the door opens and Spencer hugs me.
“Hey man! I missed you! How are you?” he babbles and pulls back. “Oh my god. I bet it was torture. I’m so sorry for leaving.”
I smile slightly and look at my shoes.
“It wasn’t that bad.” I whisper.
“Shut up, Ross.” He laughs and motions for me to come in. “I’ll take my mom’s car and then we’ll get your stuff.”
“What?”
“You’re not staying with Urie anymore.”
“W-why not?”
Spencer turns around and looks at me with fake-sadness.
“Ryan, this hurts. Are you telling me you don’t want to stay with me? Your best friend?”
“Of course I want to. All I’m saying is that staying with Brendon wasn’t … bad.”
“You’re blushing.”
“I-I’m not!”
“Now you’re stuttering. What happened?”
“N-nothing”
He rolls his eyes and pulls me into his room where we sit down on the bed.
“Tell me!”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes”
I sigh and start fiddling with my hands.
“Well, Brendon and I are kinda … together.” I say and look at him.
His mouth opens and closes again.
“What? Like in … a couple?”
I nod.
“Wow, I didn’t expect that.”
“Are you okay with it?”
He smiles sadly.
“If you like him I’m okay with it. I just have to give him the best friend talk.”
“Spence! No! Don’t creep him out.”
“I won’t. So what do you want to do now that I’m back? I was so bored the last two weeks. Let’s do something!”
I think for a moment before I notice how hungry I am.
“We could go out for breakfast.” I try.
“Ry, do you even know what time it is?”
“Uhm” I look at the clock. It’s a bit after noon. “Oops. Then … lunch?”
He laughs and ruffles my hair.
“Of course”

Brendon’s POV

I look up from my book (well, Ryan’s book) when I hear the doorbell, followed by my mom calling me.
“Brendon! Your surprise is here!”
I roll my eyes but get up and make my way down into the hall.
“Mom, what- ” I stop when I see a slightly familiar blonde girl in the door.
“Brendon, this is Chloe. I met her father a few days ago and we decided that the two of you should meet each other.” My mother says with a huge grin.
She probably thinks she did something good. Oh, fuck you.
“We already met.” I mumble and cross my arms in front of my chest.
Chloe just smiles a stupid smile that makes me want to punch her.
“I thought that you two could maybe do something today.” My mom says and I glare at her.
“And why would you think that?” I ask harshly.
I don’t fucking care what Chloe thinks of me.
“Brendon Boyd Urie. Be nice to your guest.” She sighs and turns to Chloe. “I’m sorry. Why don’t you wait outside?”
Chloe nods and leaves quickly.
“Mom! Are you nuts? What do you think you’re doing?” I yell as soon as Chloe closed the door.
“Don’t talk to me like this, Brendon! I am your mother!” she says and sighs. “She is a nice girl.”
“I don’t care! I know what you’re trying to do. You want Ryan and me to break up so I can get together with that stupid blonde fuck!”
“Brendon! That’s it! You are going out with Chloe or I won’t allow Ryan to stay here anymore!”
“No! He can live with his best friend. That’s not a problem.”
“Then how about this? If you continue seeing him we will move again. Your father got another job offer but he didn’t accept it yet. We could be out of here within the next week.”
“W-what?! Dad wouldn’t do that!”
“Do you want to test me and my ability to persuade him?”
“I- ” she glares even more and I look down. “No”
“Fine. Now don’t let Chloe wait even longer.”
I look away and make my way to the door, mumbling curses under my breath.
“Hey Brendon!” Chloe cheers when I step outside.
I say nothing and walk over to the car, Chloe following quickly.
“What are we doing?” she asks and I grimace.
“I have no idea.”
“We could go eat something. I’m kinda hungry.”
“Whatever”
We get in the car and I start the engine without really knowing where I want to go.
Let’s just hope this is over soon.

Ryan’s POV

Spencer and I go to a small diner near his house. It’s nice and quiet but we sit down in a booth in the corner anyway. The waitress takes our order and leaves again.
“Alright, now I want to know everything.” Spencer says with a creepy grin.
“No, you’re going to laugh.” I whisper, looking down at my lap.
“Yes, probably.”
I glare at him playfully before I sigh.
“We kinda got lost in the woods and when we got out again he just … kissed me.”
Spencer stares at me as if he’s not sure whether to believe me or not.
“In the woods…”
“Yes”
“And you got lost.”
“Yes”
Suddenly he starts laughing loudly and I sink down in my seat.
“Shut up” I mumble.
“Hey, Ry. I’m not making fun of you. It’s just very funny, okay?” he chuckles.
“You’re totally making fun of me.”
“Okay, maybe a bit.”
I open my mouth to talk when I see two people walk in.
“What are you looking at?” Spencer asks and turns around to look at them as well. “Is that Brendon? With a girl?”
My head nods without me really noticing it. Something inside my chests starts to hurt when I watch them sit down in a booth near the counter.
“Wait, do you know her?”
I shake my head, still staring at them.
“Does that mean he’s cheating?”
“I-I don’t know.”
Wait, I know that girl. She was at the bookstore.
Oh shit. I should’ve known.
My gaze lowers down to my lap once again and I feel tears in my eyes.
“Fuck” I mumble and get up, walking over to their table slowly.
The girl spots me first and I see a small smile cross her face.
“Brendon?” I ask when I’m right next to the table.
He freezes and looks up at me with wide eyes.
“Ryan” he breathes out. “Fuck, this isn’t what it looks like.”
“Of course” I say without emotion. “I’m sorry I wasted your time.”
With that I turn and walk towards the door.
“Ryan, stop!” Brendon calls behind me but I’m already out of the door.
I should’ve known.
No one likes me.
Everyone gets tired of me or leaves because I’m a freak.
Tears are running down my cheeks now but I don’t care. I just want to get away from them.
From him.

Brendon’s POV

I’m about to run after Ryan when someone grabs my arm and stops me.
“Brendon, what the fuck?!” Spencer hisses.
“What?”
“Who is that?” he yells and points at Chloe who’s still sitting there as if nothing happened.
“My mom forced me to go out with her. I can’t explain this now.” I hurry to say. “I have to talk to Ryan.”
“No. Do you really think I’ll let you go after him?”
“You have to!”
“Fuck you, Urie. You hurt my best friend. He shouldn’t have stayed with you.” Spencer curses. “I knew something bad would happen.”
“Nothing bad happened.”
“Oh I see that.”
Anger came over me out of a sudden and my hands balled into fists.
“Listen. You have no idea what happened. Ryan changed everything for me and I might’ve changed him as well. I helped him.”
Spencer laughs out and looks at me judgingly.
“You have no idea for how long I try to help him. I know him since he’s six years old. Do you really think you can help him in just a few weeks?”
“Yes” I say firmly. “I made him come out of a toilet stall at a club while he was having an attack.”
Spencer’s eyes widen.
“How?”
I look away and clench my jaw.
“I told him I love him.” I mumble eventually.
Spencer blinks a few times, narrowing his eyes as if he’s not sure whether to believe me or to laugh.
“You … what? Then why are you doing this?”
“I told you! My mom forced me!”
“Are you serious?”
“Yes, my mom hates Ryan.”
“Oh, wow”
“Are we okay then? Am I allowed to go after him now?”
He bites his lip and looks around.
“I doubt you’re going to find him. He’s good at hiding.”
“I can try.” I say and make an attempt to run out of the diner.
“No, wait. Tell me what happened? Did he talk to you after you … said those three words or…” he stops. “Does he remember?”
I look down and shake me head.
“He just opened the door and tackle-hugged me.”
“Did you tell him about it?”
I shake my head.
“What?! Why not?”
“I didn’t think it’s the right moment to tell him when we woke up.”
Spencer sighs and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“That was the exact right moment, you moron. Now he’s running around outside, thinking you cheated on him. I don’t even want to think about the things that might happen.”
“Then we should go find him.”
“Uhm, excuse me?” another voice asks and we turn to look at Chloe. “Brendon, your mom said we would go out so I suggest we do that now.”
If look could kill she would explode now.
“Fuck you! I don’t give a shit about you or this.” I hiss. “Right now, I need to find my boyfriend so excuse me.”
Without waiting for her reply I turn and run out of the diner, looking around frantically.
Shit, where would I go if I were Ryan?
After thinking for a minute I start running into the direction I saw him take off into.
Let’s hope nothing happens.
