Château de Cédre

Prologue

BEEP-BEEP, BEEP-BEEP, BEEP-BEEP. The annoying sound of my alarm clock aggravated each fiber of my being. As I roll over to shut the wretched reminder that always seems to interrupt my sweetest dreams, I caught a glimpse of the time. It had been set an hour early. As I rose, I found a letter from my mom that read, “Good morning beautiful. I have a surprise for you downstairs.”

Getting up out of my cozy bed, I quickly changed and headed downstairs. When I reached the bottom, I spotted a golden envelope on the kitchen counter. Picking up the envelope, I slowly opened it to reveal a small, heart-shaped locket. I carefully opened it and what I saw put a big smile on my face. It was a picture of my family. My dependable and dedicated mother, Sarah, my positive and independent sister, Nikki, and then there was me, Celle.

I’m the kind of girl who is quiet, but I am strong and I am not afraid to fight for what is right. I carry the fear of failure on my shoulders. The thought of failing my beloved family runs cold through my veins.

After hooking the chain around my neck, my heart overflowed with love and a tear ran down my cheek.
