I Found You

Five

Rosie was nervous as she showered and dressed. Valary pulled her hair into a stylish ponytail.

She sent her down to the front door where Zacky stood waiting.

“Wow.” his breath was taken away by how beautiful she looked. The way she bit her lip while her cheeks flamed red.

He shifted a bit to adjust the erection trying to form. It wasn't time for that and it wouldn't be for a long time. As he gazed upon her, he knew that it would be worth the wait.

“Hi.” she said shyly

“Are you ready m'lady?” he asked

“Have her home before dark! And don't you even think about trying anything with her.” Valary said from the top of the stairs, shaking her finger warningly

Zacky smiled and gave his promises to Rosie's new mom figure as he ushered her out of the door.

Rosie's heart couldn't stop racing as she climbed into the car. Since they lived so far away from town, the ride promised to be a long one.

As she stared lost in thought out of the window. Her lips started to move and form a sequence of words.

“Mercy screams its violent love, Justice and mercy justice and mercy, the death of us created for, justice and mercy justice and mercy, this is where they kiss...” she mumbled to herself. She turned to Zacky and asked for a piece of paper and a pen.

He directed her to the glove compartment where she located one and wrote down the lyrics she'd just thought of.

“I, uh don't mean to interrupt but you have a beautiful voice.”

“Oh, um, thanks.” she said as she wrote

When they made it to the city, she pulled into a small restaurant. It was fancy and looked expensive.

Rosie suddenly remembered being taken here to live out the fantasies of her customers. He would fake like he was there alone and spotted her from across the room. They would drift towards each other, and...do things that would make Rosie physically shudder.

She brushed all of that from her mind as they sat at their table.

“Have you ever been here before?” he asked

“No but I know the environment.” she said

They ordered drinks, him having wine while she ordered a soda.

She looked up noticing that he was staring at her. His eyes twinkled with something in them. Something that she d recognize as love or affection.

“Why are you staring at me?” she couldn't help but ask

“I'm trying to figure you out. I mean I usually read people so well but with you I can't read shit!”

She blushed at his choice of words and apologized.

“You're sorry that I can't read you?” he chuckled. “You don't need to apologize for everything.”

She nodded her head.

“So um that journal...in your room. The lyrics were pretty good.”

Her eyes widened in shock. “You read my journal?!”

“No. When you dropped it, I glanced in and saw a line or two.”

“What made you think they were songs and not poems.”

“Cause the lines I read were under the word chorus.”

She chuckled. “Oh really. What did they say?”

“Take care of my loves, I can't hold on...”

“Keep me alive while I die...”she sang. “That's Tina. One of the first songs I've ever written.”

He put his chin in his hands playfully. “Tell me more.”

“What more do you wanna know?”

“What made you write something like that? Did something happen to you?”

“No, not me. Tina. When I was 12, I got really sick and had to stay in the hospital for a week. My first night there a woman who had waken up from a coma and was put in the room next to mine. Her body was so badly burned I couldn't help but ask what happened. She calmly told me that she had once had a happy life with her husband and children but then things started to go bad. She and her husband started fighting more until one day he started beating her. I remember her saying how trapped she felt because she didn't want to ruin her family. She told me that one day she got so tired of him that she poured gasoline all over herself and set herself on fire.” tears trailed down her face as she remember sitting there hearing and seeing her pain. “She um, realized that what she was doing and begged for a second chance. She laid in the bathtub expecting to die but instead woke up in the hospital....she never even felt sorry for herself. She just wanted to get back to her family. I wrote the song that night and showed her the next morning. Tina smiled and thanked me. When I asked for what she said "for caring enough about me to tell my story." ”

“Wow.”

Zacky was completely speechless. He had visited kids with a variation of diseases before but that story sent a shiver  down his spine.

“Every one of my songs has a story. Most of them aren't about me but a lot I can relate to.”

“Can you sing me a song?” he asked

“I-I don't know. Where I've been, singing wasn't always...allowed.” she recalled singing her songs and taking a beating from Michael for it. He remembered telling her that no one wanted to hear her sing some shit that she wrote.

He constantly reminded her that her job was fucking, not singing.

“Maybe I shouldn't...” she mumbled

“Please. Rosie please.” he begged mostly with his eyes

“Okay.”

He smiled and they made small talk about movies and books as they ate. She had never laughed so much and her cheeks actually were in pain from smiling so much.

When they finished he took her to a park where the found a spot and sat comfortably on a blanket.

“So how about that song?” he said immediately

She sighed nervously.

“Telling Layla's story spoken
about how all her bones are broken
Hammers fall on all the pieces
Two months in the cover creases

Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows how to believe in futures

All my complaints shrink to nothing
I'm ashamed of all my somethings
She's glad for one day of comfort
Only because she has suffered

Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows how to believe in futures

Here she stands today
In her brilliant,shiny way
Stronger than her pain
In her brilliant,shiny way

Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows how to believe in futures

Fully alive
More than most
Ready to smile and love life
Fully alive
Now she knows how to believe in futures...”

He stared at her as she sang. Feeling such a deep and painful connection. The beautiful flow of her vocals gave him the confirmation that he was definitely in love with her.

This girl, who just popped up out of nowhere on his door step. This girl who had barely been with them for a week.

It was hard for him to grasp that someone like him, someone who never searched for or cared about love, could find it so quickly in such a seemingly broken spirit.

Zacky heard her emotions as she sang. He heard the overwhelming fear and when her song was finished he vowed that he would do anything to protect her.
