I Never Told You

Chapter 6

Christmas in Colorado went by a little too fast for my liking. Packing up my bag to get ready to go back to Sweden, I felt myself procrastinate every chance I could. I heard a light knock on my door and walked over to answer it. Opening the door, I was met with a pair of lips on mine. I smiled into the kiss, knowing it could only be one person. Pulling away, I looked deep into his blue eyes.

“I just wanted to kiss you one last time before you left.”

I raised an eyebrow at him. “What? I still have one more night. Also, aren’t you driving us to the airport?”

He nodded. “Oh, I am, but I just don’t know how much time alone we will get.”

I thought about what he said. “Well, nothing stopping us right now.”

It was his turn to raise an eyebrow. “You’re just trying to stall yourself from packing, aren’t you?”

I shrugged my shoulders and gave him my best “innocent” face. “What’s wrong with a girl wanting some alone time with her boyfriend before she leaves? And if I just so happen to miss my flight, I…”

“My parents will have both of our heads.” He cut me off and pressed his forehead against mine.

I sighed. “I guess you’re right. You can’t blame a girl for trying.”

“No,” he chuckled, “no, I can’t. It’s not like this is the last time we’ll see each other. There are plenty of times throughout the season and school year you can come for a visit.”

“Yeah, that might be true, but it’s not like I can afford to just fly here whenever I feel like it.”

“Oh, look at that. One of the perks of having a hot-shot NHL rookie as a boyfriend.” He smirked as he placed a soft kiss on my lips. “Finish packing. We’re leaving in an hour for dinner.”

I smiled as he closed the door, leaving me alone to finish packing up. One last dinner and one last night with Gabe meant one thing. I had to make the most of this, not knowing when I would be able to see him again before the end of the school year.

Minus what I needed for the night and the morning, I had everything packed away. I had looked at the contents of my luggage before I zipped it up, I let out a chuckle. Hearing my phone buzz, I picked it up from the bedside table. It was a text from Bea.

Hey. Can I come in?

I chuckled lightly and walked over to the door. I opened it and gave her a smirk.

“You seriously had to text first?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “Well, I saw Gabe come in here a little while ago and I didn’t know if he was still in here. I know this is your last day together.”

My smirk faltered a bit. “Yeah, he was here, but he ordered me to pack up and get ready for our dinner. Speaking of,” I walked over to the dress I had hanging in the closet. “What do you think?”

Her eyes widened. “Oh wow. It’s a good thing that me and my parents are planning on leaving you two alone tonight.”

I could feel the colour rise in my cheeks. “Seriously? It’s that bad?”

She shook her head. “No, no. It’s gorgeous. He’s gonna have a hard time keeping his hands off of you.”

I shook my head, the colour only increasing a little more. “Um, okay. Well, this is the only thing I left out for the night so it’ll have to do.”

Bea rolled her eyes. “Sweetie, you really need to gain some self esteem. You’re gorgeous and you’re going to knock Gabe’s socks off in that dress. Honestly.”

I gave her a small smile before looking over at the alarm clock and noticing that I had only about 5 minutes to get ready. “Okay, well I don’t mean to kick you out, but I have about 5 minutes to get ready.”

Bea put up her hands in defense. “No, I completely understand. I’ll see you tomorrow. We’ll be out of here before you guys get back from dinner.”

I smiled as she walked out and let me get ready. I shocked myself with how fast it took me to get ready. I was just finishing up applying my lip gloss when Gabe racked his knuckles on my door. I checked my reflection one last time and walked over to my door. I turned the door knob and began to slowly swing my door open. I smiled at the sight in front of me. Gabe was dressed in a charcoal grey buttoned down shirt and a pair of navy dress pants. He gave me a once over and smiled. When he looked down at my feet, he couldn’t hold back a chuckle.

“I admire your boldness in shoe choice.”

I looked down and saw the heeled black boots that Bea had lent to me and smirked.

“Well, you didn’t expect me to wear my clunky winter boots, did you?”

He shook his head with a laugh. “Come along. We need to leave now, especially if I’m going to have to carry you most of the way.”

Gabe’s POV

Katy and I arrived at the restaurant and were immediately ushered to our table. I was happy that it wasn’t too packed with people. We got settled in our secluded booth that I requested and ordered our drinks. Once the waitress went away, I smiled at Katy.

“I didn’t get the chance to tell you but you look beautiful.”

I could see the blush begin to rise in her cheeks as she tilted her head down and began to fidget with her hands. I reached across the table and took one of her hands in mine. I gave her hand a light squeeze and she looked up. She gave me a small smile and I let out a light chuckle.

“You need to learn to take a compliment, babe.”

Again with the blushing. Only this time, she spoke.

“I can take a compliment. I just don’t exactly have the words to respond to it.”

I gave her a small smile. “Well a simple ‘thank you’ works.”

She smiled back towards me. “Well, thank you.”

I let go of her hand and looked over the menu as I contemplated what I wanted for dinner. I heard a gasp from Katy and looked up. “What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Everything is so expensive.” She exclaimed.

“No, it’s not. It’s fine. Besides, this is a special dinner.” I heard her sigh, but I wasn’t going to give in. I knew that she would’ve been happy if we had just gone to McDonald’s, but I wanted this to be special. “Order anything you want. Please, don’t worry about the price.”

After a few moments of silence, I had looked over at Katy who nodded and called the waitress over to take our orders.

Katy’s POV

Dinner was delicious. Walking out of the restaurant, I noticed that the snow had begun to fall a little harder than when we arrived. I tried to step through the snow, but I could see that it wasn’t working very well. I heard a light chuckle behind me.

“You need a hand there, miss?” He came up and placed a hand on the small of my back. I looked up and stuck my tongue out at him.

“I didn’t think it was going to snow this much.”

Gabe laughed. “I can’t say I didn’t warn you. C’mon. Thankfully we’re not far.”

I stood in my place and put my hands on my hips. Gabe stopped when he noticed I wasn’t walking beside him. He turned around and raised an eyebrow at me. “What’s wrong?”

“I clearly remember someone saying they would carry me.” I smirked.

We laughed the entire way home as Gabe gave me a piggy-back back to his place. When we got to his door, he placed me on the ground. He unlocked his door and looked at me with an uneasy smirk.

“Well, I guess the night ends here.” He leaned in, bringing his face closer to mine. I smirked to myself, thinking that Bea must not have told him that she and his parents were leaving for the night. I turned my face from his and turned the door knob and opened the door. Walking into his apartment, I turned and looked at him standing in the doorway with his jaw halfway to the floor.

“Actually, I think our night has just begun.” My smirk grew a little bit more as Gabe walked into his apartment. He closed the door behind him and began to step closer to me.

“Is there something you know that I don’t?”

I shrugged my shoulders innocently. “I don’t know. Is there something that you don’t know that I might know?”

He looked around him and noticed that his family was nowhere to be found.

“Is my family not here?”

Again, I shrugged my shoulders. “Doesn’t seem that way.”

He looked down at me and stepped in close, placing his hands on my waist. “You knew about this, didn’t you?” He whispered as he leaned in.

Rather than words, I answered him with a kiss. I pulled him closer to me and reached up and ran my hands through his hair. Pulling away, I whispered, “I’ll never tell.”

Gabe’s POV

I was a little taken aback by Katy’s confidence. I had never seen her this forward before, and I loved it. She grabbed my hand in hers and pulled me back towards my room. I raised an eyebrow as she stopped just before my door. She turned and looked deep into my eyes and in just above a whisper, said….

“Make me forget I’m leaving tomorrow…”
