Wish I Stayed

pale blue eyes

Clarissa had tried contacting Liam ever since he left her house without a word. He couldn’t bear to see her face though, and when work started up again, he couldn’t be happier. Sure, he didn’t like his lieutenant, but there were plenty of other people he enjoyed being around. There was his pal, David, and his other friend, Frank. There was no Clarissa or Harry or Bella there, so he should be fine.

He stuffed a hat onto his head, and he slipped on his sunglasses before he made his way outside. For once, the sky was clear, and the sun was out and bright and burning people alive. This type of weather didn’t seem to make him feel any better. It made everything seem happier and brighter, while he was a gloomy little dot in this small world of theirs.

It was a quick walk to the fire station since his flat was so close, but that was the way he planned it. If the fire station ever needed more help, he didn’t mind. He enjoyed saving lives because he hated seeing people passing away. If he could, he would save every life he could even if he didn’t like them too much.

He was just about to push the door to the fire department open when he heard the familiar voice. It only belonged to one girl in this small world of theirs. “Liam,” she said, and he slowly turned his head back to find her behind him with a small little girl in her arms.

Clarissa seemed like an angel with the sun shining behind her. He remember back when they were dating that he would always tell her she was his angel sent down from heaven. Of course, she replied with how cheesy that sounded, and he couldn’t help but laugh at that. It had been true though. She seemed like she was just for him, but she was never for him.

“I have work, Clarissa,” he said as his brown eyes darted to the ground. “I don’t have time for this,” he told her lightly. He couldn’t help but glance up at her one more time, and he knew he would regret it from the moment he lifted his eyes. Her blue eyes had turned sad, and he lips quivered lightly before she darted her own eyes to the ground.

“Mommy, crying?” the tiny munchkin in her arms said as she placed both hands on her face. Liam knew Clarissa didn’t remember giving birth to the baby, but he could tell that she loved her with all her heart. She always did want a child.

“I’m fine, sweetheart. I’m not crying at all,” she told her, and she kissed her forehead before she glanced at Liam once more. “I’m sorry,” she muttered gently before she went to set Bella down. She took her hand, and they went down the street. He would regret that moment as well because he had allow her to slip through his fingertips once more.

“And who is this?” Harry asked as a charming smile snaked its way onto his lips. His eyes roamed over Clarissa, and Liam felt his arm around her tighten just a little so she was pulled closer to him.

“This is my girlfriend, Clarissa,” Liam said, and Harry held up his hands as he took a step back.

“No need to get jealous, Liam. I’ll back up,” he nodded, and he allowed his hands to slip into his pockets before he glanced around at the other boys. They were in a conversation with Clarissa, and soon, both Liam and Harry were joining the conversation. Of course, Liam could see the side looks he was giving Clarissa as he undressed her with his eyes, and he felt disgusted with him.

He knew Clarissa was beautiful, but it was wrong for Harry to act in such a way. Yes, she was beautiful, but she had so much more to her that built up to that beauty. She was able to joke, and she wasn’t as serious as Liam was. She made him lighten up sometimes, and not many could accomplish that task.

Clarissa was perfect for him, and she thought he was perfect for her.

Liam slowly woke to the sunshine that was sneaking its way past the curtains and into the bedrooms. He rubbed at his eyes and slowly sat up as he stretched lightly. He often woke up early when he lived in the fire department since he was always ready to get up late and work. Sure, it messed with his sleeping schedule, but he was saving lives here. Sleep could wait.

“We need food,” David groaned as he opened the fridge and found nothing but rotten milk in it. “Let’s go grocery shopping, Liam,” he said as he glanced back at the brown haired boy, and he slowly nodded.

“Alright, let me slip on my clothes, and we can go,” he told David. When he was ready, he started out to the fire truck with him and drove towards the nearby grocery store. He had first gotten his license during uni, and he had felt so free when he had first drove alone. It was magical really, and it was one of the first things to make him truly happy. He was never really happy these days.

As David and him made their way through the aisles, Liam casually pushed the buggy as David tossed whatever he seemed reasonable into the cart. He was a big eater, and he reminded him of Niall occasionally, though David didn’t have the Irish accent neither his laugh.

“Hey Liam,” he said as he held up two packs of cheese, “Colby jack or cheddar?” he asked with a raise of an eyebrow. Liam’s eyes weren’t focused on him though. Oh no, they were focused on the couple behind David that were kissing. She was leaned back slightly, and the curly haired boy had his hand on her back as he kissed her passionately. That seemed to stir something in him. He would get his girl back.
