Wish I Stayed

i can breathe you in

When Liam’s shift had ended, he exited the fire department and ran a hand through his hair. A light yawn fell from his lips as he slipped on his glasses and turned around to start down the street. Instead of heading to his house, he found Clarissa waiting as she gnawed on her bottom lip. She was staring down at the ground, and she slowly brought her eyes up to his face after a moment.

“Hi Liam,” she muttered softly as she went to rub the back of her neck as she took a small breath. “Can we just talk? Please?” she asked as she licked her lips and tugged on her hair lightly.

He took a deep breath himself before he gave her a slight smile and nodded, “Yeah, we can talk.” He was determined to get her back, and he would do whatever to do that. “What did you want to talk about?” he asked as he started down the street with her.

She seemed surprised by his answer, but she jogged to catch up with him before she said, “Will you tell me more of our memories?” She looked up at him, and he smiled down at her as he nodded.

“Yeah, I can,” he said as he shoved both of his hands into his pockets. When they got to his flat, he opened up the door and led her inside. It was messier than he had been last time. Chinese take outs were littered across the room, and clothes were tossed here and there.

Liam felt his cheeks heat up as he actually took in the mess, and he felt himself rub the back of his neck as he glanced over at Clarissa. “Um,” he muttered, “uh, I’m usually not this messy.” He bit on his tongue lightly, and he watched as her eyes roamed the room before she looked up at him.

“I don’t mind,” she shrugged, and he remembered the days when he used to be neat and clean. That was before he left Clarissa and such. She was messy during those times, and he couldn’t help but smile a little at the memory.

“Uh, we can sit on the couch,” he said as he took out some boxes and went to toss them into the garbage before he sat down next to her. He bit his lip lightly as he tried to find a memory he would like to think of at the moment. “It was in February when you developed the nicknames. Valentine’s Day to be exact,” he chuckled lightly before he continued.

Liam carried the gigantic bear that held a basket full of gifts in its arms. He had customized the bear and the basket himself with lots of chocolates along with lots of books. She loved books and chocolates that they were her second love. His head peered from the side as he tried to watch where he was going, but the thing was humongous.

“Sorry,” he said as he dodged a person at the last second before he entered the elevator. He set the bear down for a moment, and he looked down at it with a small smile on his face. It was a light pink bear with her name on his stomach. It also had hearts here and there. If you pressed random parts of the bear, it would speak.

He squeezed its left ear, and he grinned as a, “I love you, Clarissa,” came out. Of course, they only been together for two months, but they both knew they were in love with each other. He pressed its other ear, and he smiled as, “Kiss me,” came out. It was all recorded by him, and he couldn’t help but chuckle lightly and hoped she liked the gift.

His arms went around the bear’s bottom before he lifted it up and made sure the basket wouldn’t fall. Once he was all set, he exited the elevator and softly counted the doors he past. “One, two, three, four five,” he turned to the right, and he knocked on the door with his foot.

“Li -,” Clarissa began before she stopped, “bear?” He poked his head from the side, and she grinned when she saw him. “Li-Bear!” she grinned before he entered the apartment and set the bear down. He could hear her mother softly humming in the kitchen, but his attention was on her only.

“Li-Bear?” he asked with a raise of an eyebrow, and she nodded quickly as her arms went around him.

“I just made it up!” she giggled, and she kissed his cheek before she pulled away. She trotted off to her room and came back with her own Valentine gift. It was a bear as well, but it was a smaller one. It was purple, and it had its own chocolates stick out along with a Woody hat on top of his head. He couldn’t help but laugh, and he took the bear from him. “What’s this?” he asked as he felt something poking out from the stomach, and he pressed it lightly.

“I LOVE LIAM!” Clarissa’s voice practically yelled from the bear, and he couldn’t help but laugh once more.

“Thank you,” he grinned as he kissed her forehead, and he watched as she went over to her gift.

“It’s so big,” she said before she took the basket from its lap and set it to the side. She squeezed the bear, and he smiled as the bear spoke.

“Clarissa is the best,” she seemed shocked for a moment, and she giggled. As she was giggling, she accidentally sat on its foot and out came, “Love me, Clarissa.” She laughed, and she went pressing everywhere until she got to the right ear.

She pressed on it, and it said, “Kiss me.”

She smiled and stood up before she wrapped her arms around his neck. “Your gift is so much better,” she muttered softly as she kissed him lightly on the lips. It slowly turned into something more passionate, and he ran his fingers through her hair before he slowly pulled away.

“I love you, Li-Bear,” she told him softly.

Liam thought about something for a moment before he smiled down at her, “I love you, Clare-Bear.”
