Caroline Bevan is happiest at school. She is one of the most popular girls in the class, is cheerleading captain, and if her grades aren't that good, what does it matter? However, she does not like her home, where her parents constantly argue and are always out, and the house is too small and smells like last night's takeaway.
Jonah Seagal is the exact opposite. Nobody notices him at school (except for the gang in his class), but at home he has his large family, who, even though they are caught up in decorating other people's houses, asking his grandmother how to knit and terrorising the people who run the nursery, act as Jonah's support system.
