A True Story

"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful maiden," I said, stroking the wispy white-blonde hairs from the girl's forehead. "She had hair the color of moonlight and skin of the palest ivory. Her eyes were green as grass and her lips were red as the finest rose. When she sang, all the birds in the kingdom fell silent."

"Is this a true story?" the child interrupted, her voice small and clear. I smiled.

"As true as life, Iseult. Now hush, let me continue." I continued to stroke Iseult's soft hair, then went on with the tale.

"This maiden's name was Aiofe, which meant warrior. She was raised by the elves of Graena Timbur, and she was chosen by them to be the first Dragon Rider in centuries...."
